PCG's Failed Prophecy: President Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt

[Update: April 2, 2015: Update concerning the Armstrongite James Malm has been moved to the end of this post.]

"Sharia Will Win in Egypt". That is the name a Trumpet Daily broadcast hosted by Stephen Flurry that was released on December 12, 2012. This was made while Mohammad Morsi, member of the Muslim Brotherhood, was the elected President of Egypt. PCG at this time constantly portrayed President Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood as a boogeyman rushing to transform Egypt into an Islamic fundamentalist state and destined to assume power, radicalize Egypt and ally with Iran. He had no idea the Muslim Brotherhood would soon face removal from the halls of power, suppression and mass bloodshed.

Little did PCG know of the Muslim Brotherhood's frightful fate less then a year later.

Over the years, even in the early 1990s, PCG's writers had made it a habit to fear monger that Egypt was on the verge of transforming into a radical Islamist state made in the image of Iran. PCG's writers focused their vituperative venom on the Muslim Brotherhood, a prominent political organization that had been active in Egypt since its founding in 1928.

PCG's writers claim to have some special knowledge which supposedly reveals the outline of what will certainly occur. But they completely failed to foresee that the Muslim Brotherhood would be overthrown. The Muslim Brotherhood was violently suppressed at the cost of at least 638 lives in August 2013 after just a year of having one of their own as the elected President of Egypt. Later it was legally defined as a terrorist organization by the Egyptian State. Did PCG's writers ever tell their readers that something like that was awaiting the Muslim Brotherhood in the future?

For years PCG's writers used the Muslim Brotherhood as a bogeyman to scare PCG members and their co-workers into thinking the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood was a sign that World War III is just around the corner. Now that the Muslim Brotherhood have been bloodily suppressed and deposed from power PCG's writers no longer have a use for them and so rarely talk about them now.

(Also PCG now portrays Mubarak as a friend to America who courageously and wisely held the forces of Islamic fundamentalism at bay while he ruled. But, as is seen below, back in December 2008 PCG's writers once insinuated that he would ally with Iran.)

Here are a few of the strident and certain declarations by PCG's leaders that the Muslim Brotherhood would radicalize Egypt and ally with Iran. Today the Muslim Brotherhood has been suppressed within Egypt. If PCG can predict the future why could they not foresee that?

It’s time we looked at the facts about Egypt! The Muslim Brotherhood has the political momentum inside Egypt, and it has the backing of Egypt’s ruling military council, Hamas, Iran and the United States! No other political party can compete with this, especially considering parliamentary elections are less than three months away. It’s a hard reality to swallow, especially with Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq demanding so much attention, but we could be months away from the world’s largest Arab nation being dominated by radical Islam. Little did MacDonald know the Muslim Brotherhood was just two years away from being deposed from power and even banned as a terrorist organization within Egypt.

There may be a few delays along the way, but do you really think any individual or group will be able to turn back the Muslim Brotherhood takeover of Egypt?

Turns out some individuals and groups were able to get the Muslim Brotherhood out of power. Not only were they kicked out of power they soon got banned and endured massive bloodshed.

An article released in February 2012 even announced that Egypt had already changed into a "radical Islamist country".

One particularly fascinating article by Brad MacDonald reveals how excited PCG's leaders were to see the Muslim Brotherhood arising and presents this as a sign that Egypt would radicalize like Iran in 1979.

Here at the Trumpet, the political revolution currently afoot in Egypt arouses a great deal of excitement. For 20 years, we have forecast that the moderate government in Cairo will be replaced by hardcore Islamists who will quickly align Egypt with the anti-Israel, radical Islamic administration in Tehran. We are currently watching this happen. ...

The reason we find what is occurring in Egypt so exhilarating is because it proves the accuracy of the biblical prophecy, which forms the foundation of the Trumpet’s analysis of world news. ...

At the time Brad MacDonald had no idea that the Muslim Brotherhood would face catastrophe and suppression at the cost of at least 638 lives just two years later in July-August 2013.

For nearly 20 years, the Trumpet has forecast that Mubarak’s “moderate” government in Cairo will be replaced by hardcore Islamists who will quickly align Egypt with the anti-Israel, radical Islamic administration in Tehran. Our editor in chief first said this in the November/December 1990 Trumpet, after the assassination of Egypt’s speaker of parliament: “Egypt’s President Mubarak could [also] be assassinated .… This could radically change Egyptian politics .…”

By July 1993, Mr. Flurry’s prophecy for Egypt had grown even clearer. “Islamic extremism is gaining power at a frightening pace in Egypt,” he wrote. Keep in mind that Hosni Mubarak’s regime—which brutally suppressed Islamic extremism, by the way—has only been gone for 17 months. And during that time, the Muslim Brotherhood has hijacked the “Arab Spring” uprising, secured 70 percent of Egypt’s parliamentary seats and re-worked Egypt’s constitution, basing it on sharia law. Now it appears to have won the presidency.

It’s possible, of course, that the power struggle between the military and the Brotherhood might continue on for a few more weeks or months—maybe a year or two.

At the beginning of 2011, when Hosni Mubarak came under intense popular pressure, many in the West saw it as a positive development that would herald a wonderful new age for Egypt. The Trumpet, however, didn’t view it that way at all. That is because we had been writing for nearly 20 years about a biblical prophecy that Egypt would take a dramatic turn toward Islamic radicalism. ...

The Iranian-led radical Islamic movement is “very strong in Egypt and Algeria. … This religion will probably take control of both countries very soon,” he wrote in December 1994.

(Incidentally Gerald Flurry was wrong about Algeria turning Islamist "very soon" in 1994. The insurgents were eventually rendered powerless in Algeria. The military led government were able to come out on top and reestablish their rule over Algeria.)

He did it all before his presidency was two months old—and he’s still on a roll.

It is tempting to assume that now that Egypt’s military is back in charge, things will return to how they were under former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak—not ideal, but without much danger to the outside world. [Update November 3, 2014: It has come to my attention that James Malm has linked to this post. I would like to share this comment from one who must surely know much more about him then myself. I would be reluctant to use some of the language used in this comment because I have had little to do with him. But this person surely knows much more then I do about what he says. (I have taken the liberty of dividing this comment into paragraphs.)

Like one commentor said, he remembers reading where someone mentioned how much better they felt after quitting reading James Malms articles, that was probably me and it is true. 

Malm constantly as one person says, gossips and puts down all other COGs, no matter what they do or say, only he is right and only he knows the whole truth. This man is causing division against all the brethren against all other churches and against all other church leaders (if indeed they really are Gods churches). 

I can almost guarantee you if you totally shut down turning to and listening to James Malm for a month or so you will notice how much more at peace within you will be, then once you go back and listen to him again you will notice that peace slip away. 

He is the most self righteous arrogant know it all person claiming to have all truth of them all, and doing it all while putting everyone else down in one way or the other and claiming he has come to straighten everyone out and reveal the truth to them and bring them to repentance, only him. God must be slipping if James Malm is the only one with the whole truth because not many have even heard of Malm, to most he doesn't even exist. 

James Malm has no love, compassion, mercy or nice things to say about anyone, he truely does set people against the other churches and all to try and make everyone believe it is only him God has given all truth to, there are many far ahead of him in understanding, and they don't think they are the only ones that can teach others and they are also humble enough to realize others have truth too and they will listen to others, unlike Malm who defiinately has to be in charge and even screen anything anyone has to say because again, only he has the whole truth.
