Nevertheless PCG continues to downplay it. In the July 2020 issue of PCG's recruitment magazine, The Philadelphia Trumpet, it is insisted that the death toll of the coronavirus epidemic in the United States is understated. PCG's writers stated the following in the Infographic.
... the real COVID-19 death rate is lower than reported. ...
Those who die from the disease are mostly elderly people with serious preexisting health conditions.
COVID-19 deaths are likely overestimates. ...
Compared to past pandemics, COVID-19 is relatively mild.
Imperial College of London originallyIt is awful that PCG continues to downplay the severity of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
estimated that 2.2 million people in the
United States and 510,000 people in the
United Kingdom would die from COVID-19
without government lockdowns. While it is
now impossible to know what the death rate would have been without the lockdowns, updated information about the number of mild COVID-19 cases shows that these initial death toll estimates were gross exaggerations.
This seems to be a common theme within the Armstrong Churches of God (and other right-wing groups) related to Covid-19. They think that death tolls have been inflated by the "fake news" and folks on the left. And they reject Fauci's answer to Senator Sanders' direct question about this, because Fauci is "part of the leftist conspiracy" on this.
ReplyDeleteA little common sense goes a long way! How many people have died without ever having been tested or diagnosed? How many Covid related deaths have been attributed to other causes? Are right-wing politicians above manipulating data to advance their own agendas? And are we at the end of this pandemic? Is the death toll we currently possess a final tally? Are we going to include all of the folks who will die over the next six to eight months? When considering these questions, how likely do you think it is that the death toll has been overinflated? It seems more likely to me that more people have succumbed to this infection than the current numbers suggest!

ReplyDeleteWe have aggregated statistics over the years on the "normal average" number of deaths over a period.
Many nations have doubke the normal number the past weeks. Perhaps, just perhaps this covid thing I hear about has something to do with it.
I am entertaining the possibility.
Nck
nck, I was not talking about numbers of the sick. Go back and read the post again. If you want to talk about numbers perhaps you can explain to the audience why deaths from cancer and heart disease or drastically down the last couple of months. We await your great wisedumb.
ReplyDeleteI don't care what people individually die of exactly. The overall average total deathcount is way up as compared to the same period several years down. And I assume this covid thing people talk about has something to do with it since it's new.
ReplyDeleteNck
After an analysis of the death rates in 14 countries, the Financial Times suggested that the actual death toll from Covid-19 might be as much as 60% higher than what has been officially reported in those countries.

What I find interesting is how HWA tied the Spanish flu into his, 1934 pestilence timeline, for the 1936 end of the world. Whilst PCG plays down the COVID outbreak as a pestilence. Guess they have bills to pay.
ReplyDeletePCG's rag however does read like 1940 HWA material.
"Plain Truth, April/May 1940, P. 1:"Democracy went, yesterday, in England! Today England is a DICTATORSHIP, as absolutely as that of Adolph Hitler or Benito Mussolini. . .
And when the United States gets into the war. . . THE SAME THING WILL HAPPEN HERE! . . . the president will become dictator absolute and not only soldiers, but factory worker, farmers,
every dollar of our money and wealth-all will be CONSCRIPTED! And it is THEN. . . [that] the Great Tribulation shall come, and the MARK of the Beast will be enforced! THE TIME IS AT HAND.
IT IS time for us to AWAKE!""

ReplyDeleteSomewhere on Banned, I believe Questeruk posted the "averages" comparison for the UK. There are over 50.000 more deaths in the UK than average.
Something caused this.
You and I however share a common love in the person of Mr B, cousin of Freud.
I will agree with you that todays stupid politicians are trying to hide groce incompetencies and flagrant mistakes in handling this crisis.
Also we see many pressure groups milking this crisis to the bottom including those that one to stop air traffic for green purposes.
I believe we disagree on the point wether this is a crisis at all or not.
The answer to this will only come in november or december if a possible 2nd wave brings the total aggregate number of covid deaths in the USA to double the number per million as compared to other nations. OR NOT. By then we will see if the Trump administration's handling of this crisis makes him "The Greatest Leader ever" as "The Trumpet" openly states or THE worst leadership ever.
I assume the 2n,d but the science is not yet in.

That this pandemic has been exploited by politicians of many different stripes to further their own interests and agendas is self-evident. This makes it incumbent upon all of us to exercise critical thinking skills in evaluating their actions and claims. The advice and opinions of experts is an essential component of this process. People will try to manipulate facts, but we must resist the impulse to develop our own reality. Wild speculation about nefarious conspiracies or what motivates certain individuals makes NO contribution to rational, skeptical and unbiased evaluation of fact-based evidence. And the facts of this case (the Covid-19 pandemic) suggest a very serious global health crisis that is having a profound impact on all aspects of our lives on this planet (health, social, cultural, economic, political, etc.) And I would add a corollary to the Ron Paul quote: "A nation of people who goes on their merry way and ignores what the experts tell them is a nation that is ripe for a very big fall."
ReplyDeleteMiller, you say> The advice and opinions of experts is an essential component of this process. -and- Wild speculation about nefarious conspiracies or what motivates certain individuals makes NO contribution to rational, skeptical and unbiased evaluation of fact-based evidence.
ReplyDeleteWell, who started the wild speculation? Answer, the WHO, Ferguson, Billy Gates, the good doctor Fauci. There authority figures proved to be grossly incompetent. Why Miller do you defend them? Why do you call them them authorities?
If you auto mechanic cannot repair your car correctly do you consider him competent to repair cars? Apparently so. You see what you want to see. This is how people get caught into cults. No critical thinking skills have been developed. A lesson not learned is a lesson soon to be repeated.
Your answer to the question of who started the wild speculation demonstrates your bias. Perhaps you meant to suggest that the folks you named provoked the wild speculation?
DeleteExperts are not always correct - that is why I said that their advice and opinions are a key component of the PROCESS of evaluating situations/circumstances. They are authorities in their fields because they have studied and worked in those areas all of their lives, not because they are 100% right all of the time. FDR was a consummate politician, but he screwed up royally when he attempted to pack the Supreme Court.
If my auto mechanic failed to repair my car correctly, I would demand a do over or ask some other mechanic to fix it. However, the fact that he failed to repair my car does not necessarily disqualify him/her as a mechanic. Maybe my car had a bad road speed sensor that the computer didn't catch on the first go around (this actually happened to me once with an old Renault Alliance, and I was ready to call a priest to have it exorcised!). In other words, an occasional failure does not make someone incompetent (imagine what that would mean for any professional person in any field if that were our standard).
Skepticism is good. It is only when we swallow something hook, line and sinker that we open ourselves up to being swallowed up in someone's cult. Unfortunately, a large segment of our culture is too lazy to investigate or too comfortable with what they believe to exercise their powers of intellect/reasoning.

ReplyDeleteHave you considered the "problem" of democracy.
Wise critical thinking men like HWA printed about Japanese attacks on American soil in 1934.
Of course the US president was only able to get the American democracy warmed up for a project against Japan in 1942 when the general public was convinced too.
Perhaps opinionated, history will once rank and judge you amongst the wise seeers like Churchill or HWA.

Btw
ReplyDeleteI do not understand you ranking Billy Bob Gates amongst the incompetent.
He has warned repeatedly about pandemics and spent considerable part of his fortune studying them.
It is the American People who are negligent up to this day and suffer more deaths than any other democracy by all statistical standards, comparisons and other mathematical trickery.
It is just a basic foolishness and lack of interest in how a virus multiplies in a population.
The American people stand condemned by their foolishness and stubbornness and America's religionists seem to be at the leading edge of stupidness and some cog splinters as the pinnacle of stupidness within the larger circle of general national ostrich behavior.
And Gerals Flurry amongst the top Ov that counting amongst the mass murderers in the Trump administration. There should be a Covid Neurenberg trial for negligence and misinformation after the 2nd wave. I am afraid the US will not even get a 2nd wave..... Just one long increasing first wave until a vaccine is found.

It is not as if the knowledge of quarantining has not been around for over 500 years.
ReplyDeleteIt's a "Venetian" word for "40 days" when a plague ridden ship from China would arrive.
I made the point like Miller that people in Western democracies have been lulled into laziness and contentment since minorities and poor people can be hired to do our dirty jobs like protecting interests in the Middle East or the flow of milk and honey through debt and borrowing and lowering of taxes and not inform themselves about consequences of actions or negligence.
Nck
Intellectual laziness and willful ignorance are rampant in Western democracies - especially the United States. And we all know that an informed and interested citizenry is essential to the proper functioning of a democratic republic.
DeleteMiller writes> Your answer to the question of who started the wild speculation demonstrates your bias.
ReplyDeleteYou are attempting to turn the table on the argument. Disingenuous of you.
In case you did not comprehend the statement, let's try this. The wild speculation was done by Fauci, Gates, Ferguson and the WHO. They got the ball rolling which landed up destroying the American economy for some time, with unemployment going towards those numbers from the great depression.
Question for you. One word. Was all this (shutdown) worth it?
Was all this (shutdown) worth it? The answer to that question will depend on a lot of variables that are still up in the air. I'm thinking of things like how the reopening is conducted, what (if anything) was learned from the exercise, the final death toll and our success in implementing testing/tracing and developing a vaccine and/or effective treatments.

ReplyDeleteSince Miller provided an answer I feel free to respond as well.
Fauci and the WHO are not elected officials to weigh all interests of all stakeholders like the economy.
I am in favor of multidisciplinary teams in crises instead of "expert teams". And John Kennedy convinced me also of the need for an "advocate of the devil" during the 100 days Cuba crises.
Stay safe opinionated to keep us informed of alternative narratives out there. I cherish diversity in nature and philosophy.

Miller, my terms for an answer was yes or no. If you have any understanding of the damage now and going into the future as you should have as a living, thinking individual, then you should have been able to answer something that should be simple enough to calculate. We are talking about the economy.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't answer the obvious then there is no reason to continue on with this discussion.
Opinionated, you do not get to dictate the terms of my answer. Out of courtesy to you, I attempted to be as brief as possible (and, unlike you, I answered your question). I understand the desire to simplify things - that's part of the problem. Our world is so complex - it sometimes feels overwhelming; but there are so many variables to consider that solutions have to take into account all of the ramifications which they might unleash. The obvious is often superficial and doesn't come close to telling the whole story.
DeleteI agree with you that the economy is important. It is not, however, preeminent. And, in keeping with what I've already said, restarting the economy must encompass health concerns and a whole host of other considerations. If we could magically snap our fingers and open everything this minute, it would not fix things. A large segment of our population is not going to engage in business as usual until they feel safe to do so. And, whether or not you or I believe their fears are justified, their concerns will have to be taken into account and addressed. This pandemic inspired closure will also require dealing with things like tax policy, state debt and deficit spending. Unfortunately, your comments suggest that you are not interested in discussing anything so complex and nuanced.
