LCG's Reliance on WorldNetDaily

It is not just PCG that uses WorldNetDaily to convince people about what they say. LCG uses WorldNetDaily in this way as well.

Just like PCG LCG's leaders also have not a single bad word about WorldNetDaily. Whatever is quoted from them is treated as an incontestable fact. One relying on LCG's writings would never know that WorldNetDaily actually has a bit of a bad reputation.

It is amazing for me to have to note that LCG's leaders seem to trust WorldNetDaily. Not once do they say maybe WorldNetDaily might just have made a mistake about what they have said.

It is sad that LCG's leaders trust such a controversial group to inform their followers.

Below is a list of quotes from LCG's writings which quote WorldNetDaily. The first one is from 1999, less then a year after LCG's founding. Roderick C. Meredith, Douglas Winnail and Jeffrey Hall quote WorldNetDaily, but other articles are written anonymously. In all of these articles there is not one critical word for WorldNetDaily. Whenever they quote WorldNetDaily they seem to just take it at face value. There is no hint of skepticism about what WorldNetDaily says from LCG's leaders. LCG's leaders seem to trust WorldNetDaily.

Some quotes are from lcg.org. Others are from tomorrowsworld.org.

One analyst believes the next major war will be based on "strategic positioning, aerospace, and the ability to protect maritime assets" which are the focus of China's current policies (WorldNetDaily.com, 1999). (Douglas S. Winnail, Sea Gates in Peril, July-September 1999.)

The story of Protestant decline is the same in America and other countries. At a recent conference of the Presbyterian church, liberals' attempts to ordain practicing homosexuals and question whether belief in Jesus Christ is necessary for salvation (see John 14:6; Acts 4:12) sent shockwaves through a denomination long considered a bastion of conservative Christian theology. One delegate commented that "the homosexual and christological debates have diminished the church's ability to minister" (2001, WorldNetDaily.com). (Douglas S. Winnail, Significant Religious Trends, November-December 2001.)

Homosexual political lobbies want same-sex relationships recognized as the legal equivalent of heterosexual marriage. Laws pending in Sweden and Canada would make any negative reference to homosexuality a crime (WorldNetDaily, Oct. 21, 2002). (Douglas S. Winnail, Sodom Rises Again!, March-April 2003.)

An article in WorldNetDaily reported: "In addition to being bound by state statutes to promote homosexuality in its 'diversity and "safety' programs, schools face the threat of lawsuits by groups such as the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network." ... In the huge Los Angeles school district, according to the same WorldNetDaily article: "Instructions on homosexual sodomy and a glorified account of lesbian pedophilia are among the instructional materials approved...for use in 'diversity' and 'safety' programs being presented to elementary through high school students." ...

One might think that the pace of change in Israel, which is the birthplace of Old Testament scriptures, would lag way behind the rest of the world. Not so! In a WorldNetDaily article, it was reported that "the Tel Aviv city council approved a measure to recognize unmarried homosexual (and) lesbian… couples as family units and grant them the same discounts for municipal services that married heterosexual couples receive." (Jeffrey Hall, The 'Evolution' of Society, January 6, 2005.)

According to the World Net Daily: "The Muslim Brotherhood which is said to have aided the Palestinians in their cause have a slogan: "The Koran is our constitution, the prophet is our guide; Death for the glory of Allah is our greatest ambition." (Jeffrey Hall, A Cup of Trembling, January 6, 2005.)

Also, China is gaining increasing nuclear capability. China is the largest nation on earth in terms of population and, increasingly, is competing with the United States and the western nations in world trade and world influence. Following is a significant quote from WorldNetDaily.com, last March 19: "Here’s one that tops the Dubai Ports World deal—but, so far, no one is complaining. U.S. taxpayers are lending Westinghouse Electric Co. almost $5 billion to build nuclear power plants in China—even though the company, based in Pennsylvania, is about to be sold to Japan’s Toshiba Corp., and even though the company is currently owned by British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. And, so far, no one in the U.S. government is showing any interest in scrutinizing the sale over the transfer of nuclear-power technology— or in halting the loan from the Export-Import Bank." (Roderick C. Meredith, Do You "See" God in Current Events?, May-June 2006.)

This idea is not new and has proponents around the world (World Net Daily, August 22, 2008). (Everyone doing what is right in their own eyes…, September 3, 2008.)

One town newspaper was contacted ahead of time and provided a reporter, but chose not to notify the church of the demonstration. Members of the gay activist group marched down aisles shouting profanities. They pushed and shoved church members in an attempt to get them to “push back.” The demonstration quickly broke up when the sheriff arrived. A statement on Bash Back’s website read, after the event, “Let it be known: So long as bigots kill us in the streets, this pack of wolves will continue to BASH BACK!” (WorldNetDaily.com, November 11, 2008). (Homosexual Rampage at Michigan Church, November 17, 2008.)

A spokesperson for the law firm that will represent the pastor and his wife commented, "[we are] troubled by this draconian move to suppress home Bible studies… If the current trends in our nation continue, churches may be forced underground. If that happens, believers will once again be forced to meet in homes. If homes are already closed by the government to assembly and worship, where then will Christians meet? I'm deeply concerned that if in the US we are not able to meet in our homes and freely practice our religion, then we may be worse off than China" (WorldNetDaily.com, May 22, 2009; FoxNews.com, May 28, 2009). (Scott D. Winnail, Is a Famine of the Word on the Horizon?, June 11, 2009.)

The Apostle Paul warned that in the last days, society will become increasingly evil by rejecting God’s ways and favoring their own lusts (2 Timothy 3:1-5). This prophecy and many similar ones are now coming true… and sadly, our children will reap the consequences (WorldNetDaily, January 29, 2013). (What's Ahead for the Boy Scouts?, February 20, 2013.)

In a recent interview, a former PLO operative who has since renounced his terrorist ways, reported on a recent celebration at an Egyptian wedding, where “a group of men in a frenzy tear apart a live chicken by hand, then scrabble over its pieces to eat its raw flesh” (WorldNetDaily, April 22, 2013). Walid Shoebet (the interviewee) suggested the behaviour at the wedding “demonstrates the ‘demonic’ spirit that has gripped the nation since its 2011 Islamic revolution” (ibid.). Many are starting to long for a strong ruler who will again enforce the law as Hosni Mubarak did, and bring back a time when “no one dared to do such things” (ibid.). (A Perverse Spirit in Egypt, May 6, 2013.)

[Note: Walid Shoebat is part of the Islamophobia Network and many people are very skeptical about his story of being a terrorist.]

“A federal judge has backed a homosexual-rights group [from Uganda] in its claim that members were injured by an American pastor’s biblical preaching in Uganda against homosexual behavior” (WorldNetDaily, August 15, 2013). Should this type of lawsuit be recognized in the U.S., virtually anyone opposing legislation that supports homosexual rights could be jailed for crimes against humanity (ibid.). (Upside-down Justice, August 20, 2013.)

According to a quietly revealed U.S. plan, the Vatican and an international coalition would control some of Jerusalem’s most holy sites (WorldNetDaily, December 15, 2013). “The exact composition of the international mandate is up for discussion… but [U.S. Secretary of State] Kerry’s plan recommended a coalition that includes the Vatican, together with a group of Muslim countries such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia” (ibid.). (Vatican to Control Jerusalem’s Holy Sites? , December 20, 2013.)

It is concerning to see LCG's leaders have taken such a source as though it were gospel. No good can come from this.

People deserve to know that LCG uses WorldNetDaily in this way.

1 comment:

  1. The methodology of the Cult of Herbert Armstrong Mafia is to cherry pick 'news' which suits their agenda. If WorldNetDaily says something that will support their view of the world, or, more importantly, sell their ideas, that is what they will use.

But that's not the whole picture.

Often they will take a quote totally out of context to support what they are saying and many times the quote turns out to be totally opposite the intended meaning.

Of course, this does not diminish one whit their propensity to just make thing up when it suits them, you know, like 'Dr.' Hoeh's Compendium of World [alternative universe] History.

The only thing we can do is to continue to point out how stupid their stances are with real facts.
