LCG Teaching that Apostles Brought "True Christianity" to Ireland (2002)

Banned by HWA has a post up stating that UCG had published an article in 2014 that portrayed Saint Patrick as being like the COGs today.

It has long been taught in the COGs that for centuries in the distant past the church in the British Isles was very much like the COGs until they were taken over by Catholics loyal to the Pope.

This idea may also be seen in LCG's writings as may be seen in Douglas Winnail's article "Early Christianity in Europe's Western Isles" (Tomorrow's World, November-December 2002.) However in that article it is insisted that the some of the original Apostles brought Christianity to the British Isles.
The widely accepted notion that Patrick first brought Christianity to Ireland is a fable—not a fact. Numerous historical sources state that the Apostles brought true Christianity to Ireland four centuries before Patrick!
Armstrongism was started up by Herbert Armstrong when he joined the Church of God (Seventh Day) and split away from them to start up his own organization which taught his own ideas often cobbled together from other sources in a syncretic fashion, often from other Adventist sources and the Jehovah's Witnesses. To say it is a continuation of some early form of Christianity in the British Isles is nonsense.

Localizing Armstrongism Outside the USA

Recently Banned by HWA featured an intriguing comment on James Malm's website which among other things shows how political messages taught within the COGs gets localized in different countries to fit in with the membership and keep the churches afloat.
... so many CoGs are so very political, taking strong stances on Trump, on tax dollars spent on abortion, on Obamacare etc. with their publications causing a major headache for their congregations abroad (e.g.the UCG in Europe refusing to translate the pro-Trump drivel that came from Don Ward recently so as not to lose their entire congregations)....
(UCG-ers in Canada are always offended by the editorial in the Beyond Today magazine which implies frequently that taking tax money to pay into a shared pool for health insurance is a violation of “Thou shalt not steal” because the govt is stealing your money !! (Mike Kelley’s time-worn theme).

UCG Cites Early Catholic Writers to Prop Up HWA's God Family Doctrine

HWA and his imitators taught that immediately after the Apostolic era there was a great falling away in which apostolic Christianity (supposedly very similar to what HWA taught) was superseded and suppressed by what would eventually become the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox churches.

But despite this dogma UCG's booklet, Why Were You Born?, seeks to prop up the God Family doctrine (HWA's teaching that his followers are fated to become God beings as fully God as God is God though of a lower rank,) by citing several ancient leaders of the early Catholic Church.
While the biblical concept of deification or divinization, exaltation to godhood, is commonly ignored or dismissed in modern Christian teaching, this doctrine was well established among early theologians of mainstream tradition.
Though the writings of these men are not always biblically accurate, the following quotes from their writings demonstrate that in the first centuries after the New Testament was written many still understood the clear implications of its teachings on this subject.... (Why Were You Born?, p. 20.)
After those words the booklet presents quotations from Justin Martyr, Theophilus of Antioch, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Tertullian, Hippolytus, Origen, Athanasius and Augustine of Hippo to imply that they taught the God Family doctrine or at least something quite similar to it.

It is worth noting that when HWA began to teach the God Family doctrine he did not cite these early authors. Citing these early authors has the effect, intentionally or not, of obscuring the fact that the God Family doctrine is taught among the COGs because HWA proclaimed that to be the fate of those who followed him in his organization.

But HWA's teaching of the God Family was not original. It is widely suspected that he plagiarized this doctrine from Mormonism. Another possibility mentioned in a previous post is that he may have acquired the idea from the early Watchtower Society organization. However he acquired that doctrine he was not the first to teach such an idea,

It is unfortunate that UCG's writers should cite early Catholic writers to prop up the God Family doctrine when HWA did not cite them when he first taught that doctrine.

The Fall of Ari Shavit

Ari Shavit, Haaretz columnist and author of My Promised Land: The Triumph and Tragedy of Israel (2013), has lost a lot of respect after a journalist alleged being harassed by him. The initial article did not name him but his connection to this incident has since been confirmed.

Seeing this incident I could not help but wonder if the COGs have mentioned him.

PCG Quoting Ari Shavit

PCG mentioned him three times, twice in 2006 while discussing the war with Hezbollah and once in 2009 discussing the one year anniversary of Operation Cast Lead.

***
Israel’s political disunion is easily and accurately perceived by its many foes as being a vulnerability, something to exploit. With the cease-fire now being implemented, some analysts said that, Olmert’s boasting over Israel’s “victory” notwithstanding, this war has been sufficiently botched that the prime minister’s days in office are already numbered. As Haaretz columnist Ari Shavit wrote,
There is no mistake Ehud Olmert did not make this past month. He went to war hastily, without properly gauging the outcome. He blindly followed the military without asking the necessary questions. He mistakenly gambled on air operations, was strangely late with the ground operation, and failed to implement the army’s original plan, much more daring and sophisticated than that which was implemented. And after arrogantly and hastily bursting into war, Olmert managed it hesitantly, unfocused and limp. He neglected the home front and abandoned the residents of the north. He also failed shamefully on the diplomatic front .…
The day Nasrallah comes out of his bunker and declares victory to the whole world, Olmert must not be in the prime minister’s office. Post-war battered and bleeding Israel needs a new start and a new leader. It needs a real prime minister. (Cease-Fire Follows Israeli Division Over War Strategy, August 14, 2006.)
***
As the UN-mandated cease-fire came into effect on August 14, voices within Israel descended upon the prime minister in crushing condemnation—even demanding he leave office. Haaretz columnist Ari Shavit, for example, wrote, “There is no mistake Ehud Olmert did not make this past month. He also failed shamefully on the diplomatic front. … Post-war battered and bleeding Israel needs a new start and a new leader. It needs a real prime minister” (August 11). (Joel Hilliker, Who Won?, October 2006.)

***
In an analysis of Haniyeh’s statement, Haaretz correspondent Ari Shavit wrote this:
In recent years, quite a number of experts have promised us that Hamas does not really mean it. Hamas is only playing tough, but its intentions are lofty: ceasefire, Green Line, coexistence. Live and let live. But no message conveyed by any senior Hamas member to any diplomat behind closed doors is equal in status to the message conveyed by Haniyeh to the masses. What counts is only the direct and open statement made by the Palestinian leader to his people. Palestine, all of Palestine. Every piece of Israeli land on which any Israeli citizen lives. His home, your home, our home. The land beneath our feet. (Remember Hamas?, December 18, 2009.)
***

Although Shavit gained much more attention with his 2013 book PCG's writers never mentioned him afterwards in their articles.

UCG Quoting Shavit

UCG has quoted Shavit two times. Once in 2002 while discussing violence during the Second Intifada of 2000-5 and once in 2014 in a little article.

***
The confidence of Israel is slowly ebbing away. Reporter Hammer quotes Ha'aretz newspaper columnist Ari Shavit as lamenting, “There is this feeling that we tried politics, we tried the army, we tried everything. What's left?” (Robin Webber, This Is The Way...Getting Underneath the Skin, August 1, 2002.)

***

He is also cited as a source in an article dated March 11, 2014 entitled "Israel: A Nation in Dire Peril" written by Jerald Aust and John Ross Schroeder.

LCG and COGWA does not appear to have quoted Shavit.

And so it is apparent that PCG and UCG have quoted Shavit previously but he appears to have gained little attention in the world of Armstrongism.

COGs Mainly Silent on Trump's Comment About Women

So the election campaign has been rocked by the revelation of Trump boasting of being able to grab women in their private area because he's a star back in 2005. Such words have justly earned widespread condemnation.

I took a look at PCG's websites (thetrumpet, pcog, and kpcg), LCG's websites (tomorrrowsworld and lcg) and UCG's main website. As far as I can tell none of them has discussed this disturbing revelation about the man who could be President on those websites.

However PCG's Dennis Leap appeared to allude to this matter in a tweet dated 8:53 PM, October 7, 2016 but even then he neglects to specifically discuss the matter and he does not single out Trump specifically for condemnation instead condemning both candidates.
It's the most hypocritical election process I have ever seen. Both candidates are so guilty. The shame is too much to handle. So sad for USA

Do they not care about protecting the women in their lives from this disdainful and disturbing attitude? Is this matter only worth a very vague tweet on a private Twitter account? Is this matter somehow not worth an article from any of them on their main websites?

UCG Quoting Breitbart News

In a previous post we saw how PCG has quoted from Breitbart News. Recently as part of the ongoing presidential campaign this media outlet has gained attention as a hub for a subculture of the political right named the alt-right. Furthermore the chief editor of this media outlet, Stephen Bannon, has become the campaign manager for Trump's presidential campaign. Media reports have emerged about Bannon being charged (but not convicted) of domestic violence in 1996 and of making anti-Semitic comments.

Let us take a look at UCG's quotations of Breitbart News. As it turns out UCG's main website cites this media outlet in nine articles since 2007. UCG's affiliate blogs cite this media outlet in nine posts since 2011. (Two quotations listed here are on the same webpage.)

UCG Quoting Breitbart

In this post only quotes from UCG's main website is quoted. Citations from affiliate blogs are omitted.

UCG first quoted this media outlet in a December 2007 article discussing a National Intelligence Estimate that concluded that Iran had abandoned attempts to make nuclear weapons in 2003.
Here, according to AP (via Breitbart News ), is Israel's view of whether Iran's nuclear weapons program is proceeding: (Darris McNeely, Iran is Not Building a Nuclear Bomb?, December 4, 2007.)
After this this media outlet is not cited until 2011 when it is mentioned in an article discussing an advance in electronic technology.
Scientists at Northwestern University in Illinois, along with a team of international researchers, have developed an electronic skin tattoo, called an epidermal electronic system (EES), that temporarily sticks to skin and could potentially be used to monitor health conditions, to interact with computer games or for covert operations. ... (“Electronic Skin Tattoo Has Medical, Gaming, Spy Uses,” Breitbart.com, Aug. 11, 2011). (Amanda Stiver, Tiny Technology, November 3, 2011.)
This media outlet is cited again in a similar vein in April 2012.
Though tablets are very popular, ergonomic testing has not yet caught up with their widespread proliferation so as to provide recognized guidelines for promoting healthy user posture (“Can Tablets Give You a Pain in the Neck?” Breitbart.com, Jan. 25, 2012). (Amanda Stiver, Tablet Posture, April 20, 2012.)
In March 2013 UCG released an article that cited at length an interview from this media outlet of Walid Phares. Disturbingly no mention is made of the fact that Phares used to be an ideologue of the Phalangists, a Maronite Christian based sectarian faction in Lebanon during the terrible civil war of 1975-91. Is it really a good thing to listen to a man who was involved in such things?
This reflects a disturbing realignment in U.S. foreign policy. When Lebanese-born Middle East expert Walid Phares was asked in a recent interview to expand on his statement that “everyone in Washington knows Obama supports the Muslim Brotherhood,” he offered this stunning response: [Cites a quotation from Phares lasting six paragraphs ending with the following footnote:] ....(interview with Jennifer Hanin, “How Does Egypt Regain Its Once-Coveted Status? … Part I,” Breitbart.com, Dec. 17, 2012). (Tom Robinson, Puzzling U.S. Support for Islamists Over Moderates, March 3, 2013.)
In October 2014 UCG cited this media outlet in condemning an incident at school.
School officials in southern Florida “banned a fifth grader from reading the Bible during 'free reading' time” (Breitbart.com, “FL Teacher Banned Bible From 'Free Reading' Time in Classroom,” May 5, 2014). (Tom Robinson, Banning the Mention of God in Public Life, October 31, 2014.)
In January 2015 UCG's Tom Robinson once again cited this media outlet while discussing lone wolf attacks by Al Qaeda like extremists.
Breitbart News recently listed a number of other attacks by such “lone wolves” since 2006 in which individual Muslim men killed eight people and injured many others in attacks that included beheadings, shootings, knifings and driving a car into a crowd of people (Ben Shapiro, “7 Other Lone Wolf Islamic Attacks Inside the U.S.,” Sept. 28, 2014). (Tom Robinson, Warnings to the West, January 7, 2015.)
In June 2015 UCG cited this media outlet in insisting that transgender people are suffering from a mental disorder. Outside of UCG's information bubble the American Psychiatric Association does not view it as a mental disorder.
Breitbart news noted that as a pushback, on June 3, 2015, “the Wall Street Journal’s online edition promoted a June 2014 op-ed by Dr. Paul McHugh, former psychiatrist-in-chief at John Hopkins Hospital, which argues that transgender identity is a mental illness akin to bulimia and should not be treated with surgery, which can cause more harm than good” (Joel Pollak, “WSJ Promotes Op-Ed Claiming Transgender Identity is a Mental Disorder,” June 3, 2015). ...
Breitbart notes that when the op-ed was originally published, “the left reacted in fury,” some labeling McHugh’s views “transphobic” and a form of “science denialism.” Yet it is those who support transgenderism who are in denial of science and reality in their drive to completely redefine family relationships. And sadly, the public is more and more willing to comply. (Sources: Breitbart, New York Post , The Wall Street Journal .) (Tom Robinson, Staying off the transgender-promoting bandwagon, June 22, 2015.)
In March 2016 Robinson once again cites this media outlet. This time it is to scare monger that the usurping murderers and terrorists of ISIL may help bring UCG's false prophecies to be fulfilled by insinuating that ISIL may advance into the State of Israel. At present this is an absurd and unlikely fear.
Then a recording from Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed caliph of the Islamic State, warned: “Jews, soon you shall hear from us in Palestine which will become your grave … [Allah] has gathered you in Palestine so that the Mujahadeen [Islamist fighters] can reach you soon … Palestine will be your graveyard” (quoted by Aaron Klein, “Islamic State Leader Baghdadi Threatens West, Vows to Turn Israel Into ‘Graveyard’ in Rare Message,” Breitbart.com, Dec. 26, 2015). (Tom Robinson, Islamist forces inch closer to Israel and Jordan, March 2, 2016.)
In July 2016 UCG cited this media outlet in an article that discussed events in Britain and promoted the inaccurate dogma of British Israelism.
Yet despite the growing influence of right-wing Islam, the country’s moral underpinnings are tied most strongly to the secular humanist movement. This was displayed prominently recently when London’s new mayor Sadiq Khan, himself raised Muslim, flew the rainbow flag from city hall to honor the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (Donna Edmunds, “Muslim Mayor of London Flies Rainbow Flag From City Hall,” Breitbart, May 17, 2016). (Milan Bizic, What Made Britain Great? And How Did It All Go Wrong?, July 18, 2016.)

UCG Affiliate Blogs

UCG's website also hosts affiliate blogs connected to a specific congregation of UCG which may be seen below. With the exception of Tom Fahey's July 3, 2015 quote the following quotes are from L. Jim Tuck's newsletter as quoted on these UCG affiliated blogs.
March 10, 2011 Breitbart.com reported: “The UN on Thursday expressed alarm at a huge decline in bee colonies under a multiple onslaught of pests and pollution, urging an international effort to save the pollinators that are vital for food crops. (UCG Sacramento, UN Alarmed at Huge Decline in Bee Numbers, March 12, 2011.)
March 10, 2011 Breitbart.com reported: “Nouriel Roubini, the economist who correctly predicted the global financial crisis, warned on Thursday that some advanced economies could experience a double dip recession if the price of oil climbs to $140 a barrel. (UCG Sacramento, Economist Warns of Double Dip Recession if Oil Hits $140, March 12, 2011.)
April 26, 2011 Breitbart.com reported: “The euro struck a 16-month high against the dollar and the Swiss franc notched a record high versus the US unit Tuesday amid heightened investor nerves over this week's busy economic calendar. (UCG Sacramento, Euro Strikes 16-Month High Against Dollar, April 30, 2011.)
June 14, 2011 Breitbart.com reported: “French President Nicolas Sarkozy called Tuesday for tighter controls on the speculators he blames for soaring food and energy prices threatening global growth. Saying the world had "worked extremely hard" to revive growth in the aftermath of the global financial crisis, Sarkozy said "one of the main threats to growth is the rising cost of commodities." (UCG Sacramento, Sarkozy Warns of Soaring Commodity Prices, June 18, 2011.)
April 7, 2014 Breitbart.com reported: A new study on the economic power of the world's nations has named China as the 'most powerful nation' on its 'world market power' index. The report was issued by Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) as part of its Emerging and Growth-Leading Economies (EAGLEs) research project tracking the world's leading nations. BBVA feels that China has the most influence on the world's economies. (UCG Oakland, Study: China World's Most Powerful Nation, April 12, 2014.)
April 22, 2014 Breitbart.com reported: “In Nigeria, 234 Christian schoolgirls abducted; a Jesuit priest shot in the head outside his house in Homs, Syria; a young Christian woman dragged from her car in Egypt and beaten to death… These are some of the latest stories of Christians being hunted, tortured, or executed at the hands of Islamists.
Stories such as these are increasingly finding their way into the American media, and Americans are showing a growing concern for the persecuted church, but policymakers seem slow to respond. Not only is the United States government virtually silent on the issue of the worsening plight of Christians globally, but in three countries where Christians are currently most under siege – Syria, Egypt, and Nigeria – U.S. policy is actually exacerbating the situation”...” (UCG Honolulu, War on Christians: The Politics of Persecution, April 26, 2014.)
March 11, 2015 Breitbart.com reported: “Rep. Robert Pittenger (R-NC), the chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, released a manual to help Americans prepare for terrorist attacks and cybercrimes. (UCG San Jose, Task Force Chair: Terror Cells Are In the US, Americans Should Prepare, March 14, 2015.)
Breitbart contributor Thomas D. Williams reported on Justice Antonin Scalia’s dissent to the decision: “In his nine-page dissent, Scalia ripped into the majority opinion, calling it a ‘judicial Putsch’ [a secret plot to suddenly overthrow a government] that poses a ‘threat to American democracy.’ He added that a ‘system of government that makes the People subordinate to a committee of nine unelected lawyers does not deserve to be called a democracy.’ The Court’s ‘naked judicial claim to legislative—indeed, super-legislative—power’ bulldozed the right of the People to self-government, said Scalia, who then turned to the peculiarly unrepresentative composition of the Supreme Court itself.” (Tom Fahey, UCG Chicago, Pastor's Update, July 3, 2015.)
June 4, 2015 Breitbart.com reported: “The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL), in the latest edition of its propaganda magazine, indicated that it could purchase a nuclear weapon in Pakistan, take it to Nigeria, and then smuggle it into the U.S. through Mexico by using existing trafficking networks in Latin America. (UCG Oakland, Dabiq: ISIS Could Transport Nuke from Nigeria Into U.S. Through Mexico, June 6, 2015.)
August 13, 2015 Breitbart.com reported: “Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif met Wednesday in Lebanon with Hezbollah terror chief Hassan Nasrallah, in which the two discussed how the nuke deal recently agreed upon between Iran and the United States and world powers creates an opportunity for Tehran’s regional allies to ‘face threats posed by the Zionist entity,’ Hezbollah’s Al Manar media outlet reported. (UCG San Jose, Nuke Deal Provides ‘Historic Opportunity’ To Confront Isreal, Iran FM Tells Hezbollah Terror Chief, August 15, 2015.)
And so it is quite evident that UCG's leaders are quite trusting of this media outlet.

UCG and LCG Quoting Glenn Beck

So after seeing how PCG's Gerald Flurry and Robert Morley have quoted Glenn Beck in a previous post let us see if the other COGs have been listening to him as well?

UCG Quoting Glenn Beck

As it turns out Beck has only been quoted in UCG''s writings twice.

In 2008 Darris McNeely wrote a short article criticizing Beck for praising the novels of Stephanie Meyer. He objected that her novels contains "vampires and spiritism."

(Note that Beck's first name is here incorrectly spelled as "Glen.")
Last week I was watching Glen Beck’s popular news program on CNN. Glen is a conservative and engaging and articulate commentator. I enjoy his perspective and his enthusiasm. ... Both Beck and Dobson clearly agreed such violent games added nothing to the social character. Right on Glen. But what struck me was the next guest Beck interviewed and the praise he heaped on her. Next up was Stephanie Meyer, a popular author of a series of vampire books for teens. ... Meyer has been called the American version of J.K. Rowling. What struck me was Glen Beck’s fawning praise for Meyers books. How can you go from criticizing the state of American morality in one segment to praising the fascination for literary worrks about vampires and spiritism? (Darris McNeely, A Confused Glen Beck, May 18, 2008.)
In 2014 Dan Hoosier mentioned that Beck had promoted British Israelism on his program to his listeners. He mentions WorldNetDaily, a far right media outlet infamous for spreading the myth that President Obama was not born in the United States. Nevertheless UCG's leaders tend to trust that media outlet. (See: UCG's Reliance on WorldNetDaily.) One wonders why PCG did not bother to mention that.
More and more people are becoming aware of this profound and fundamental fact of history. Glenn Beck explained this subject quite well on August 8, 2013, on his TV program, The Blaze . ...
Joe Kovacs of WorldNetDaily published a very supportive report on August 29 with his article, “Glenn Beck: U.S. Identified in Bible.” His article began: “Radio and television host Glenn Beck is now going public with his belief the United States is among the famous “Lost 10 Tribes of Israel,” and America today is suffering calamities just as ancient Israel did due to its disobedience to the laws of God.” (Dan Hoosier, The 7 Reasons - no, 8 Reasons - America Became a Great Power, April 2, 2014.)

LCG Quoting Glenn Beck

Beck has been mentioned twice in LCG's online writings. And in the same way that only two of PCG's 1% chose to cite Beck it turns out that among LCG's 1% only one of them has quoted Beck, namely Wyatt Ciesielka,

In 2010 Ciesielka mentioned Beck as warning that America was facing severe economic problems.
Politicians such as Senator Gregg and political pundits like Glenn Beck are right to sound the alarm. But, their warnings are incomplete messages. It is sin that is the root of U.S. economic trouble – not Keynesian versus Austrian economics, or Republican versus Democrat versus Tea Party politics, or FOX News versus CNN News versus NPR analysts! What America really needs to understand and do is repent from breaking God's biblical laws! (Wyatt Ciesielka, QE2 and the Acceleration of America's Economic Demise, November 6, 2010.)
In 2015, four years after Beck lost his television program on Fox News Channel, Ciesielka mentioned him as evidence of peoples' fascination with conspiracy theories. It is too vague to be sure whether this reference is favorable or not.
Secret societies such as the Trilateral Commission, the Bilderbergers, the Illuminati, the Burschenschaft, and Opus Dei, are favorite topics of talk radio, Internet sites, books and movies. From blockbuster movies such as "Enemy of the State" and "Angels and Demons" to "Doomsday 2012: End of Days," from talk radio hosts such as Michael Savage and Glenn Beck to Alex Jones, society is fascinated by conspiracy theories and the clandestine organizations supposedly manipulating the masses. (Wyatt Ciesielka, Satan's Secret Society and True Christianity, February 17, 2015.)
And so we see that the other COGs have also brought up Glenn Beck to their readers as well.

The Kingdom of the Cults on PCG, UCG and Global COG (1997)

In 1997 another edition of The Kingdom of the Cults, a critique of various religious movements from an evangelical Protestant perspective, was released. If memory serves correctly these references to PCG were removed in the current edition of The Kingdom of the Cults. Let us see what the 1997 edition of The Kingdom of the Cults said about PCG.

It mentioned some of the other COG splinter groups but most of its fixation is kept on PCG. This reflects the fact that UCG and Global COG (followed by LCG) after splitting from WCG appears to have not focused on critiquing the Tkach changes in their writings since most of them continued to believe what HWA had taught them earlier.
Among those that broke away during the reformation of the Worldwide Church of God, the largest is led by another self-proclaimed successor to Armstrong, Gerald Flurry. The Philadelphia Church of God, located in Edmond, Oklahoma, has a television log of sixty stations in five countries. Their program, The Key of David, echoes Armstrong’s prophetic speculation. The Philadelphia Trumpet, their official magazine, is a constant reminder of Herbert W. Armstrong’s old doctrines in the face of the reborn Worldwide Church of God. Gerald Flurry minces no words in prodding and jostling the Worldwide Church of God for its baptism into historical Christianity.

Most of the splinter cults of Armstrongism retain the name "Church of God" somewhere in their title.

They mix legalism, including strict Sabbatarianism, with a variety of Armstrong’s leading doctrines. Two other noteworthy groups among these are the Global Church of God, located in San Diego, California, and the United Church of God in Arcadia, California. The former has a television following on two superstations covering much of the United States, while the latter publishes The Good News magazine and covers thirty television stations with programming.
It has to be stated that it is commonly agreed that Meredith's Global Church of God and UCG were always larger than PCG. In 1993 Gerald Flurry wrote a polemic condemning Meredith for starting up his own Armstrongite splinter group instead of submitting himself to PCG. It is likely this polemic was partly prompted by the fact that Meredith's following was numerically larger than his own.

Notably the writer only mentioned UCG's recruitment magazine while Global COG's recruitment magazine, The World Ahead, was not even mentioned. In late 1998 Meredith broke away from Global COG and took the majority of members with him and started up another splinter group, Living Church of God. UCG's headquarters is now in Cincinnati.
The ninety cults of Armstrongism believe that Mr. Armstrong spoke with the authority of "Elijah." We cannot list all ninety groups on every subject, so we will generalise their teachings as that of "Armstrongism," while comparing it to the Worldwide Church of God or the Bible.
Today it is well known that there are hundreds of Armstrongite splinter groups. Most are extremely small and composed of just one congregation.

As is well known Hank Hanegraaff, successor of Walter Martin, played an instrumental role in persuading Evangelical Protestant churches to accept WCG as one of their own after the Tkach changes. That fact is reflected in the following quote.
This admirable step for the Worldwide Church of God is the very stumbling block of the factions. Gerald Flurry, of the Philadelphia Church of God, remarks, "The only hope for today’s Laodicean is to get back to what Christ revealed to Mr. Armstrong. . . . The Laodiceans will have to admit that Mr. Armstrong was Christ’s messenger. And they will have to believe the message in the same manner Mr. Armstrong did."
PCG is mentioned again while discussing British Israelism. (Here referred to as Anglo-Israelism.) It also refers to PCG's reprinting of some of HWA's writings from 1997 onward.
Few organised religions teach Anglo-Israelism as does Armstrongism. The Worldwide Church of God brought Anglo-Israelism under biblical review in 1990, and concluded that Armstrong was incorrect. Hence they ceased publication and dissemination of Armstrong’s major works on Anglo-Israelism. Most of the splinter cults of Armstrongism, however, readily promote it in their publications and broadcasts. One such group claims a divine calling for keeping Armstrong’s teachings in print. The Philadelphia Church of God wrote, "We derive our authority to print the works of Mr. Armstrong from God, and from Mr. Armstrong’s own wishes." We see, then, that Armstrong’s Anglo-Israelism did not cease with the repentance of the Worldwide Church of God, but has multiplied through the splinter groups.
This account also contains the following extract from a letter HWA made on November 27, 1958.
In 1958 Mr. Armstrong wrote a letter to Robert Sumner, a writer on cults and false religions. "First," he wrote, "let me say — this may sound incredible, but it’s true — Jesus Christ foretold this very work — it is, itself the fulfilment of his prophecy (Matthew 24: 14 and Mark 13:10). ... Astounding as it may seem, there is no other work on earth proclaiming to the whole world this very same gospel that Jesus taught and proclaimed!"
The following references concerning PCG are cited in this book.
Flurry, Gerald. "Personal," The Philadelphia Trumpet, February 1997.

Flurry, Gerald, and Dennis Leap. "The Key of David Vision," The Philadelphia Trumpet, March 1997.
One strength the Armstrongite COGs used to rely on was that information about them from outside sources was hard to find in the old days. But thankfully with the improvement of information technology it is now easier to access critical information concerning Armstrongism.

The COGs Quoting Ann Coulter

So recently Ann Coulter made some statements complaining about immigration in a BBC Radio interview. Let us see if the COGs have quoted Ann Coulter.

The COGs tend to lean to right in regards to politics. I do not condemn for this but it is important to note that they are right wing because this explain so much about the political positions they decide to take.

Let's take a look.

PCG Quoting Ann Coulter

Mark Jenkins cites Ann Coulter in a 2007 article which vilifies liberals as suppressing Conservative speakers.
Even the scheduling of a conservative speaker necessitates debate. Ann Coulter is currently scheduled to appear at Cleary College in Michigan in October, and the bloggers have already launched into action—thus far, unsuccessfully. But consider the mentality behind it: “I, for one, will not rest until I hear that Ann Coulter is not going to appear in October,” Julielyn Gibbons, one leader of the opposition, said. Coulter is often deliberately controversial, making it somewhat less shocking when she is publicly confronted. But the censorship of conservative speakers is general in nature. (Mark Jenkins, Tyranny in Universities, May 4, 2007.)
Ron Fraser quoted Ann Coulter in a 2009 article scare mongering that the United States would soon collapse written soon after the crisis of September 2008.
Oberservers [sic] may well have taken Russian Igor Panarin’s predictions of America’s impending collapse with a grain of salt. After all, he’s been at it for decades. The Russian academic’s prediction that the United States would collapse in 2010 must have seemed so laughable to those whom conservative commentator Ann Coulter has termed the “former frat boys who populate Wall Street” as they guzzled their champagne, swaggered around town in their German saloons funded by annual bonuses of indecent proportions, participating in the shameless mass robbery of millions of clients to the tune of multiple billions. (Ron Fraser, America’s Collapse, January 5, 2009.)
Joel Hilliker cited Ann Coulter to condemn her acceptance of GOProud within CPAC.
Predictably, though, the move rankled those who actually favor preserving traditional norms. GOProud’s presence at CPAC drove some folks to boycott the event, including the Family Research Council and the Heritage Foundation. GOProud’s executive director, Jimmy LaSalvia, said the boycotters “have chosen to marginalize themselves out of the conservative movement.” The fact that such right-wing luminaries as Sarah Palin, Andrew Breitbart and Ann Coulter supported GOProud’s presence would suggest he’s correct. Clearly, Republican organizers felt they had more to gain by courting homosexuals than they had to lose by alienating social conservatives. (Joel Hilliker, Amazing What Passes for ‘Conservative’ These Days, February 16, 2011.)
Ron Fraser quotes Ann Coulter numerous times in an article complaining that there is now less of a stigma associated with single motherhood.
Take the United States. Here’s an excerpt from Ann Coulter’s column last week (Human Events; emphasis added throughout):
The dregs of society need to be assessed a fee for their abuse of government services and thrown in debtors prison in the unlikely event that they can’t pay.

As I described in my last book, Guilty, the leading cause of all social pathologies is single motherhood. One way or another, Casey Anthony’s refusal to give up Caylee for adoption was going to cost society—and cost Caylee.

The statistics are so jaw-dropping that not giving up an illegitimate child for adoption ought to be considered child abuse.
If those words are too strong for you, then I suggest that you have allowed your moral conscience to be seared by our perverted education and media industries. Coulter simply airs the truth on the results of marital breakdown in an Anglo-Saxon society caught in the throes of its inevitable decline and fall. ...

Again, quoting Coulter on facts readily available from legitimate, unvarnished sources: “Single mothers are six times more likely to be in poverty than married families. More than 80 percent of homeless families are single mothers. [C]onsider the burden single mothers place on law enforcement because of their higher likelihood to neglect or kill their children. Eighty-five percent of mothers who kill their children through neglect are single mothers.”

One of the devil’s main tools in enacting such a horrific negative impact on our society is, as Coulter rightly infers, “the active social policy of liberals. They enjoy experimenting with other people’s lives and leaving the taxpayer with the bill. The mainstream media and Hollywood studios are constantly issuing propaganda about the joys and triumphs of single mothers.”...

As Ann Coulter cuttingly puts it: “[O]ne can’t help noticing how many more illegitimate children there are—and the accompanying child abuse, neglect, suicide, runaways and murders—now that the stigma is gone. (Ron Fraser, The Shame of Single Motherhood, July 11, 2011.)
In the article cited above Ron Fraser also bizarrely accuses the 1955 movie Blackboard Jungle of somehow causing sexual promiscuity among teenagers.

LCG Quoting Ann Coulter

In 2000 LCG's William Bowmer mentioned Ann Coulter in an article that exploits the recent origins of Kwanzaa to denigrate Christmas as forbidden for LCG's members. It is strange that Bowmer would quote a statement that equates Kwanzaa with something made by the virulently anti-Semitic individual and former Ku Klux Klan member, David Duke.
Yet Kwanzaa did not exist before 1966, when it was invented by African-American activist Dr. Maulana Karenga. Commentators seized on the President's statements, mocking him for supporting this recently manufactured holiday; columnist Ann Coulter wrote that "it is as if David Duke invented a holiday called 'Anglica' and the President of the United States issued a proclamation honoring the synthetic holiday" ("Kwanzaa: Holiday from the FBI," Town Hall, January 1, 2001). Coulter and others mock Kwanzaa's "synthetic" origins. (William Bowmer, Kwanzaa, Christmas and God's Word, Tomorrow's World, November-December 2000.)
UCG Quoting Ann Coulter

One UCG minister, Peter Eddington, mentions in a sermon that a UCG minister's writings are cited alongside Ann Coulter.
There's been quite a variety of interest in quoting our literature. Much more than in previous years; in fact, it's picked up in just the last couple of months. That's an encouraging trend, when others see our material as authoritative.

Now, here are some from online at Daycares Don't Care. It says, "Cecil E. Maranville, in an article for World News & Prophecy published by United Church of God, wrote the following to help readers increase their awareness and understanding of the debate over the use of daycare from a Biblical perspective." It's a very popular site, so Cecil Maranville is being quoted and, alongside quotes by Dr. Laura Schlesinger and Ann Coulter, are numerous references and quotes from Cecil Maranville, World News & Prophecy author. (Peter Eddington, Preach the Gospel to Every Creature, no date.)

Reading UCG's Melvin Rhodes' Blog: Part 5

Recently Ambassador Watch mentioned the blog of UCG's Melvin Rhodes. Rhodes originally came from Britain and now resides in the United States. Let's take a look at what Rhodes had said on his blog in July and August of last year.

In my opinion the blog's message can be summed up in the following words, "The Muslims are coming! Restrict immigration of Muslims now." Let us see if he continues that theme.

It is also striking how there seems to be little discussion about why refugees from Syria and elsewhere are trying to move to Europe.

This post is a continuation of Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4.

July 1

Here Rhodes mentions how cohabitation used to be illegal
America today, with less than 5% of the world’s population, has 25% of the world’s prisoners.   Can you imagine what our prisons would be like if all those co-habiting were sentenced to a jail term?   If biblical commands were upheld in our communities, we would need a lot more jails and prisons for long-term offenders.
July 15

Here Rhodes discusses the agreement with Iran.
The best the West can hope for is that this will buy time, that Iran will not develop nuclear weapons for at least the next ten years, by which time, democracies being as they are, none of those signing the agreement today, will still be in power.   They can, as with so many things, kick the can down the road. ...
Anyway, it doesn’t really matter what the West thinks about the Iranian deal.
Israel’s prime minister has described the deal as “a mistake of historic proportions,” that it endangers his country.   He added:  “the more you read it, the worse it gets.”   Iran has been screaming “Death to Israel.  Death to America,” for over 35 years.   A recent demonstration in Tehran showed mobs screaming the same again. Perhaps nobody in Washington has been watching!
But, even Israel is not the country most concerned about the agreement.   The Sunni Arab states are.   Almost certainly, they will see through this agreement and their fears of Shia Iran acquiring nuclear weapons will lead them to acquire the same.   It may take a few years, but they will be driven by a great sense of urgency.
It does not matter what the West says about the agreement? Then why is Rhodes bothering to mention this topic?

July 7

Here Rhodes discusses the terrorist attack in London that occurred in 2005.
Ten years ago exactly, 52 people were killed when four home grown Islamic terrorists blew up three subway trains and one bus.   Dozens more suffered life-changing injuries.
Here Rhodes complains that the terrorists were Muslims thus portraying Muslims collectively as a threat.
London is, arguably, the most multicultural city in the world.   The deceased were drawn from different cultures and different religions.   The perpetrators of the atrocities were all Muslims, born in England, and all from fairly affluent backgrounds.   Their actions were not motivated by poverty or lack of opportunity. ...
The suicide bombings that were being commemorated were the acts of second generation Muslims.  The countries their families came from are not cosmopolitan.   They do not allow westerners into their countries except on short-term contracts – they certainly cannot settle and become citizens no matter how long they stay.   Britain and other western nations allow immigration from the Middle East and grant citizenship, thereby encouraging a cosmopolitan society, which clearly has its challenges, when young citizens, far from appreciating the country their parents moved to, instead try to kill as many of their fellow citizens as possible.
He also insists that tolerance and respect are merely Western values and insists that others, including Eastern Europeans, China, Russia and Japan were not a part of this concept and so are unable to integrate themselves.
He also talked of the “universal concepts of tolerance and respect.”   Sadly, these are not universal concepts.  They are concepts that developed over time in Protestant countries, when the proliferation of different sects necessitated learning to live peaceably alongside each other.   They are western concepts.   They do not even extend to Eastern Europe, let alone to China, Russia or even Japan.
July 17

Here Rhodes scare mongers that scary Muslims are out to kill people.
Last year, 19 terrorist acts in the West were due to ISIS and ISIS inspired individuals.   This year, the number has jumped to 24 in just six months.
The FBI is trying to determine a motive. Again, this misleads the public.   The motive is always the same – to undermine the West and ultimately to destroy it. ISIS cannot achieve its goal of an Islamic Caliphate unless it brings down the United States and its western allies.
And what about the violence within the United States that has nothing to do with extremists of this sort? What about the fact that Americans are much more likely to be killed in more mundane ways? That is not discussed in this post.

July 24

Here Rhodes discusses Trump's call for restricting immigration.
His comment on the need to do something about illegal immigrants following the murder of a 32-year-old woman in San Francisco by an illegal who has been deported five times was roundly condemned in the liberal media and by the other candidates.
It is not mentioned that the previous deportations were in relation to non-violent offenses.

Rhodes complains that there are too many immigrants.
But millions have arrived on these shores who end up at the bottom of society, competing for low wage jobs with the working poor.   This includes many African Americans, another group Mrs. Clinton, a multi-millionaire, likes to think she represents.
Considering that the vast majority of African Americans have consistently voted for the Democratic Party since the time of the Great Depression this is quite a well founded assumption.
The best thing she could do to raise their standard of living, to create jobs and boost incomes, is to advocate curbs on immigration.   If that’s what people want, they would be better dumping Hillary for the Donald.
Will this include British immigrants?

July 28

Here Rhodes complains that reporters did not mention President Bush aiding Africans to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Western reporters were also guilty of not telling the whole truth. Much was said during coverage of the African visit about what America is doing for Africa, with some focus on a program to help those with AIDS, a disease that, in Africa, is transmitted almost exclusively by heterosexuals.   Not once did I hear mention of the fact that the program was the initiative of George W. Bush, Mr. Obama’s predecessor.   With this one single program, he did more for Africa than any other president.
Does Rhodes think HIV/AIDS is somehow connected with homosexuals in the West? That is just a stereotype. We need to move beyond that stereotype. It is a misleading stereotype. It is not true. It was never true.

August 4

Here Rhodes complains that the US federal debt is more important than climate change.
President Obama has called for urgent action on climate change, to save the environment for our children and grandchildren.
We are not likely to hear him call for massive reductions in government spending so that our children and grandchildren do not have to pay back the $18 trillion debt the last two generations have accumulated.
This problem is arguably more urgent than climate change.
Rhodes is wrong on this matter. No one can force the US government to default on the federal debt because it is denominated in US dollars and the US government is the source of this currency. Furthermore the United States was actually more indebted per capita back in the 1940s because of World War II.
How are we, or our grandchildren going to pay off $18 trillion of national debt?   How long before it’s $20 trillion?   Will that be the psychological barrier that prompts the rest of the world to say “Enough!”?
What’s happening in Greece could also happen here.
This is a false equivalence. Greece went into the eurozone so, unlike the United States, Greece did not have its own currency. So the Greek government does not control the supply of their own currency. So it was not possible for them to take deflationary measures (print more money) to address the crisis since their currency is controlled by the European Central Bank collectively.

The United States is not going to be facing a Greece like situation anytime soon. One writer called US bonds the "least risky investment in international finance." It has a low interest rate indicating that inverses are quite confident that it will be paid off. It is not possible for anyone to force the US to default on a debt denominated in its own currency. Scare mongering about it is a red herring.

August 7

Here Rhodes complains that everyone hates the United States and Britain. He uses the occasion of the anniversary of the atomic bomb detonation that destroyed Hiroshima.
It seems as if our ancestors did nothing right.
The latest example is the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima seventy years ago August 6th.
70,000 people were killed instantly while another 70, 000 died of severe burns within weeks.
The BBC World Service (radio) led with a longer than usual report from Hiroshima.  One of their veteran correspondents concluded his report by asking when the United States is going to apologize for what it did seven decades ago.
Particularly disturbing was that a group of university students from Princeton were in Hiroshima for the commemorations yesterday.   Those that were interviewed all thought the US should apologize. One even went so far as to say that the US, as the world’s leader, should set everybody an example by dismantling its nuclear weapons, then the others would follow!   Fortunately, he is too young to run for president!
I find such talk strange. We should be careful discussing this topic considering the vast lost of life that occurred and continuing health problems that the atomic explosion inflicted on those who survived the initial explosion. We need this topic with proper respect.

Then he complains about Britain not being properly thanked for ruling India along with calls for Britain to pay reparations to India.
Which brings us to the other nation everybody likes to bash, including Generation Y.
At the time the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the British were still ruling India, which included Pakistan and Bangladesh.   After two centuries, they were about to withdraw from the sub-continent.   Now, there are increasing calls for reparations.
Of course Rhodes thinks this is a terrible idea because he seems to think Indians should thank the British for ruling over them for so long.
But they were also aware that the British were responsible for laying a solid foundation throughout India – including one of the best railway systems in the world, a solid infrastructure, parliamentary government, the rule of law, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, the English language, which India’s first prime minister described as “India’s window to the world” and a first-class military, which had served the British Empire well.   In addition, the British kept the peace on the North-West Frontier, where the Taliban, al-Qaeda and, now, ISIS, are active.
Those early leaders were content to build on these strengths.   They did not demand reparations, though they did ask for aid.   That aid is still coming from Britain and other western nations, even though India itself is quite wealthy.
The current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, should be thankful for British rule.   Without it, India’s democratic system would not exist and he would not be in power!
He compares such Indians as like a spoiled son asking for more money from the parents.
India has the potential to become the greatest economic power in the world.   The country is only diminished by calls for reparations, as if they can’t take care of themselves.   To use an analogy, all of Britain’s offspring have been independent adults for fifty plus years – isn’t it a little embarrassing to go back home and ask for money?
Isn't a little embarrassing to portray a great civilization that has existed for thousands for years as though they were incompetent children of your people? And the Indians are not the children of the British people. That is nonsense. Rather the British conquered India via the East India Company. India was forced to endure rule by foreigners. And then when the British granted independence in 1947 after many years of protests calling for independence (which particularly gained urgency after the Amritsar massacre of 1920) it was decided to separate into two states and this lead to a brutal and tragic feud and hostility between India and Pakistan that haunts the Indian subcontinent to this day. And Rhodes somehow expects Indians to be thankful to the British. Who is really embarrassing themselves?

August 10

Here Rhodes contemplates on the necessity of political leaders to be in touch with the people or else they will lose power. And in more extreme instances such leaders can be overthrown in a turbulent revolution.
Former presidential candidate Ross Perot warned a few years ago that food stamps are all that stand between us and anarchy – in other words, take away free food for the poor and you could see a revolution in the United States.
That seems a bit overblown to worry about. One should wish the poor to be fed out of simple goodwill. And also why portray the poor as scary people? One should wish for the poor to be fed not because one fears them but out of simple goodwill.

August 14

Here Rhodes talks about politics in the United States.
In the neighboring land of never-ending elections, the term “War on Women” is not being applied to ISIS, but rather to the Republicans, whose leading candidate Donald Trump has made some very unwise and tactless comments on the female sex.
He also indulges in a spate of transphobia.
USA Today disclosed yesterday that there are 12,800 transgendered people serving in the US military.   Their treatment costs $5.6 million a year.   The number really surprised me.
This is clearly the age of sexual confusion, most probably the result of the breakdown of the family.
August 18

Here Rhodes scare mongers that the declining birth rate in the United States and Britain will lead to "the death of the race."
In a restaurant a few months ago, we met an elderly couple in their eighties, who told us they had 40 grandchildren and were awaiting the birth of their 25th great grandchild.   Can you believe that?   Yet, their familial situation would not have been unusual in previous generations.   It has become unusual in this generation; I should add “in the western world.”   It’s not unusual in many other parts of the world.   For four centuries the Bible believing Protestants, who dominated the West, took seriously God’s command to “go forth and multiply” (Gen 1:28).   That era has gone and birth control has made it possible. ...
Nations are changing hands, as they pass from one dominant ethnic group to others. ...
But the result is exactly what [Theodore Roosevelt] said a century ago – we are now facing the death of the race.  In every country where Europeans and their descendants have dominated for centuries, significant changes are taking place.  Not one of those countries will still have a dominant western culture by the end of this century.
It’s a sobering reality and perhaps the most significant one happening right now.
This talk of "the death of the race" is inflammatory, xenophobic nonsense. Xenophobia is rightly labelled a phobia. This is not a reasoned argument.

August 24

Here Rhodes scare mongers about the stock decline in China and scare mongers about retirement funds will not be there for peoples' retirement (even though this eventuality is quite unlikely).

He also asserts that money is but worthless paper.
It’s a good reminder that we should not put our faith in this world and particularly in this world’s money, which is, frankly, worthless paper.
What if one shoplifted something, a police officer stops this person and the shoplifter should say, Money is only worthless paper.

He asserts that a third of all mass murders occur in the United States.
In this age of mass murders, it’s interesting to note that America, with less than 5% of the world’s people, accounts for almost one third of all mass murders, defined as incidents where four or more people are killed.

Reading Melvin Rhodes' Blog: Part 4

Recently Ambassador Watch mentioned the blog of UCG's Melvin Rhodes. Rhodes originally came from Britain and now resides in the United States. Let's take a look at what Rhodes had said on his blog in September and October of last year.

In my opinion the blog's message can be summed up in the following words, "The Muslims are coming! Restrict immigration of Muslims now." Let us see if he continues that theme.

It is also striking how there seems to be little discussion about why refugees from Syria and elsewhere are trying to move to Europe.

September 7

Here Rhodes inaccurately equates refugees, many of whom are fleeing a cataclysmic war in Syria, with an invading army sent by the Ottoman Empire. One was a military invasion by a well organized, state sponsored army. The other are desperate people searching for peace and safety. How is it that Rhodes sees no difference?
In July 1683, troops of the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire attacked Vienna.  The number of troops was estimated to be between 90,000 – 300,000.   Catholic forces from Austria, Poland and other countries fought them and kept Vienna a major city of Christendom. They had stopped the advance of Islam at the very heart of Europe.
Last week, roughly three times as many Muslims entered Austria and Germany, enthusiastically welcomed by the descendants of those Catholic forces over three centuries earlier.
Rhodes cites WorldNetDaily quoting the infamous Islamophobic demagogue Robert Spencer to insinuate that the refugees have arrived with ulterior motives.
From World Net Daily (WND), comes the following:
“To emigrate in the cause of Allah – that is, to move to a new land in order to bring Islam there, is considered in Islam to be a highly meritorious act,” author Robert Spencer wrote...."
Spencer has no professional training about Islam and has been cited by the Center for American Progress as part of what it called the Islamophobia Network. He actually studied Catholic history.

Rhodes states that the world acted "emotionally" after seeing the photo of Alan Kurdi.
The western world has reacted emotionally to the photographs of 3-year-old Alan Kurdi who drowned, along with his 5-year-old brother and mother when their small boat capsized while trying to flee to Europe from Syria.   Voters have put a lot of pressure on leaders to take in more Syrian refugees.   Little thought has been given to the implications of this.
So should we be emotionless about his tragic death?

September 9

Here Rhodes complains that the British Empire is no more and that many Indians and Pakistanis have immigrated to Britain.
The fact is that the British Empire has gone and its successor, the Commonwealth (the “British” was dropped 50 years ago) is no more than a shadow of what it was.   It may not even survive the queen’s passing.   The queen remains Head of State of 16 countries and has 138 million subjects.   She is also titular Head of the Commonwealth, an organization of 54 former colonies.   It remains to be seen if Prince Charles will be able to hold it all together after he succeeds his mother. ...
With the empire gone, Britain entered the European Common Market (now the European Union), which has progressively taken away the UK’s independence.   Under the EU’s freedom of movement rules, millions of people from other European countries have been able to move to Britain, changing the composition of the nation’s population.
Added to this has been mass immigration from Commonwealth countries like India and Pakistan.
September 10

Here Rhodes alleges that the murderers of Al Qaeda set the 9/11 terrorist attacks to be on the anniversary of the 1683 siege of Vienna when the forces of the Ottoman Empire were repulsed from Vienna. This assertion seems most unlikely.
Mindful of their defeat, Muslims significantly chose the same day to perpetrate 9/11 exactly fourteen years ago.   This time, they scored a victory and hope to go on to bring about the Islamization of the western world.
He expresses his amazement that Obama was elected President just seven years after 9/11.
Amazingly, after the terror attacks on 9/11, the first new president chosen by the American people was the first one with definite Muslim connections!
What on Earth are these "Muslim connections"? What a terribly vague condemnation. With talk like that it is no wonder why some inaccurately say that Obama is a Muslim.
Ancient Rome suffered many setbacks before it finally fell, but the last blow came from the new religion of Islam, which swept all before it.   We now see history repeating itself.
If Rhodes is referring to the city of Rome this assertion is wrong. Although Rome was once sacked by Saracens in 846 Rome never fell under the rule of Muslims.

Seemingly heedless of the thought that many of the refugees are in a very desperate state he makes the inflammatory accusation that some of them have been sent by ISIL. He also makes a very bad analogy with the situation in 1683.
It’s also possible that many of the refugees are being sent deliberately by ISIS into Europe, giving them a far greater advantage than they ever had in 1683.   In the last hour, Saudi Arabia, which has taken no refugees from Syria, announced it will help those fleeing to Germany – by building 200 mosques in which they can worship.   This will, of course, advance the cause of Islam even further.
No such invasion is coming.

September 16

There are so many things wrong with the patronizing anecdote which follows.
I remember talking to an African minister in Ghana about the lack of facilities.   Although, often, the basic flush toilet was present, all too frequently it was in a terrible condition and was not functional.   I asked him when this problem started.   His response was quite telling:  “As soon as Her Majesty’s representative left!”
In other words, at independence.   Freed from British rule, they no longer considered rudimentary hygiene important.
At the same time, skilled plumbers left the country and maintenance became a thing of the past.
In fact, the same man told me that there is no word for “maintenance” in the local language.   It’s just so much easier to go into the bushes!
This patronizing anecdote does not deserve to be dignified with a response.

September 23

Here Rhodes nonsensically complains that only Catholics and Muslims matter in the United States today.
Whereas the US was 98% Protestant at its founding, today there are arguably only two faiths that matter – Catholicism and Islam.
Certainly, these are the only two that dominate news headlines.
He also complains people condemning the inaccurate claim that Obama is a Muslim seemingly not caring about getting facts correct.
Just a few days ago, the leading Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump was asked a question by a man who believed that President Obama is a Muslim.   Because he did not correct the man, it is assumed he believes the same way and he has been greatly criticized for it.   Of course, if there’s nothing wrong with Islam, why should anybody get upset if described as being Muslim!
Once again he brings up the 1965 Immigration Act and Senator Edward Kennedy.
Fifty years ago, when Senator Edward Kennedy sponsored the bill, which became the new immigration law, he said Americans would not see any noticeable change in the fabric of the country.   Here we are five decades later in a very different religious landscape thanks to that immigration act.
He cites the far right prime minister of Hungary who has often been criticized for his stern nationalism. He is sympathetically portrayed as being "realistic".
Yes, Christianity and Islam are very different.   Only the Hungarian leader, Viktor Orban, seems to be pointing that out, saying his country does not want the migrants.   Hungary suffered for almost two centuries under Islamic rule, so it’s not surprising that they don’t want Muslims back.  Mr. Orban has said that the massive movement of migrants into the country threatens the nation’s Christian heritage.   For this realistic comment, he is being condemned by the emotional majority more influenced by television images of people pushing further into Europe.
He seems to view being "emotional" as a bad thing.

He then says Orban's fears are exaggerated. This is somewhat contradictory to what Rhodes says elsewhere.
Is this the end of western civilization, as Mr. Orban fears?   That’s not likely.   What is more likely is that westerners will change their thinking when they experience the reality of greater numbers of Muslims.   Anti-immigrant parties are likely to come to power, promising to do something to restore their countries to what they were.
Elsewhere Rhodes suggests that the immigration of Muslims to Western countries will produce that exact result.

October 5

Here Rhodes speculates that the fall of the Assad regime would result in the rise of extremism.
What the US president was saying was intended as a warning to President Putin and the Arab dictator he intends to keep in power, President Assad of Syria. The latter is a ruthless dictator (the former is simply a dictator who can be ruthless; there’s a difference). The US position on Syria is that Assad must go. That now seems highly unlikely.   When Mr Obama refers to “ideas” that cannot be suppressed, he is referring to democracy and the “moderate” resistance to Assad. However, recent history shows that democracy is not the winner when dictators in the Middle East are overthrown. Rather, Islamic extremism or chaos, and usually both, result.
He seems to blame President Eisenhower's decision to oppose Britain, France and Israel's intervention against Egypt in 1956 as prompting the fall of the British Empire.
What it will mean for Russia is not clear at this time.   However, it is clear what it means for the United States.   Just as an American president’s decision in 1956 precipitated the fall of the British Empire, so an American president’s inaction over Syria and cozying up to Iran, with the resultant weakening of ties with traditional allies in the region, has directly led to America’s decline in the Middle East.
This is not true. There were many reasons why the British Empire collapsed. Many British people could no longer justify to themselves lording it over all these other peoples, many of whom had never asked to be ruled by the British. Many of those who were ruled by the British came to see that there was no reason why they themselves should not rule their own lands. Many in Britain wondered why their government was spending so much money maintaining this Empire when that money could be used to help the people of Britain instead. The British Empire's time was over. And somehow Rhodes never seemed to understand that.

October 21

Here Rhodes scare mongers that the Trudeau government's decision to allow Syrian refugees will cause terrorist attacks to occur in Canada. He hysterically insists that allowing Syrian refugees to enter the country will lead "to the Death of the West."
The strength of ISIS is in Syria and Iraq.   Mr. Trudeau’s second act is likely to be opening the doors wider for Syrian refugees, ironically a move that almost guarantees further terrorist attacks.  What’s happening in Israel is almost certainly going to become a daily occurrence in Europe, North America and Australia in the months and years to come.
However, it’s all part of a trend throughout Western countries, of compromise with Islam, compromise that is assuredly leading to the Death of the West.
Since he views things in that why why did he chide Orban when it seems Rhodes believes the same thing.

He speculates that only Putin has shown the will to defeat ISIL.
I should add that not all Europeans have lost their vision – Russia’s leader still has his.   The world woke up today to see Syria’s President Bashar Assad in Moscow, visiting his benefactor and protector, Vladimir Putin.   Russian military might is making a big difference in Syria.  This is the first time in four years the Syrian president has felt secure enough to leave the country!   Putin has the will to defeat ISIS –whether he can or not remains to be seen.

October 26

Here Rhodes talks of Putin as the only Western leaders who respects Christianity properly.
Europe certainly does have Christian roots, but there is little evidence of those roots these days, as most people have embraced secular humanism.   Only Russia’s leader seems to hold any serious Christian beliefs.   Fortunately, he seems set on saving Christians in the Middle East from Islamic extremism.
He venomously accuses the Palestinians of yearning for genocide against Israeli Jews. He mentions that some Palestinians have been forbidden to enter the Temple Mount.
By far the worst and most serious religious conflict has flared up again in Jerusalem, where Palestinians have been waging a renewed intifada against Israel.   The first intifada was in 1987.   They are trying to drive the Jews out of the West Bank.   If they succeed, it would be a prelude to driving them into the sea.
Palestinians have been angry over the Israelis not allowing young men on to the Temple Mount, which they call Haram al-Sharif (the Noble Sanctuary).   It’s also a part of the general frustration they feel after seventy years of the nation of Israel.
He seems to have no thought about how he would feel if the police should forbid him from entering his place of worship.

October 30

Here Rhodes complains about the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem saying Al Aqsa Mosque had always been Muslim.
The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem claimed on Sunday that there was never a Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount.   He went so far as to claim that the “Al-Aqsa mosque was an Islamic mosque since the world was created . . . It was never anything other than a mosque.”
The Grand Mufti is the senior Islamic cleric in charge of Islamic holy places, including the al-Aqsa mosque. ...
However, it should be pointed out to him that, amongst the Dead Sea Scrolls found shortly after World War II, were fragments of Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi.   All were dated from the second and first centuries Before Christ.
Islam did not come on the scene until the seventh century After Christ (A.D.)   Arabs took control of Jerusalem in 638 and built the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 705.
The claim that the Al-Aqsa mosque has been there since creation is ridiculous.   It’s also political – the real aim here is to “prove” the Jews have no historical claim to Jerusalem!
Rhodes also asserts that seven of the last eight Speakers of the House have been Catholic.
It’s just been announced that Paul Ryan is to be the next Speaker of the House.   Except for one, all eight of the last speakers have been Catholics.   One, Newt Gingrich, converted to Catholicism after his period in office.
Anti-Catholicism has long been present within Armstrongism, incited in no small degree because of HWA's teaching that the Roman Catholic Church is the Whore of Revelation 17 and that the final Pope will soon help create a European superpower fated to conquer the United States.

More of Melvin Rhodes' writings are discussed in Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.

Reading UCG's Melvin Rhodes: Part 3

Recently Ambassador Watch mentioned the blog of UCG's Melvin Rhodes. Rhodes originally came from Britain and now resides in the United States. Let's take a look at what Rhodes has said on his blog in November and December of last year.
In my opinion the blog's message can be summed up in the following words, "The Muslims are coming! Restrict immigration of Muslims now." Let us see if he continues that theme.

It is also striking how there seems to be little discussion about why refugees from Syria and elsewhere are trying to move to Europe.

November 4

Here Rhodes discusses ISIL's terrorist attack against a Russian plane in Egypt in which 224 innocent people were killed.

November 13

Here Rhodes discusses the aftermath of ISIL's terrorist attack in Paris which killed 130 innocent people including several Muslims.
For once, we’ve been spared statements from the Presidents of France and the United States and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, to the effect that “Islam is a religion of peace.”  It’s now too much to expect anybody to believe such an outrageous claim.   Millions of people on social media witnessed Muslims around the globe celebrating the carnage in Paris.  Noticeably absent after yesterday’s attacks was any condemnation from “moderate” Muslim clerics.
This is nonsense. It is a common trope of Islamophobia to insist that Muslims in general do not condemn terrorist acts thus slurring Muslims as a whole somehow apathetic or sympathetic towards terrorist attacks. Some of the victims were Muslims. Lots of Muslims condemned the terrorist attacks. And not just the mainstream ones either. Iran condemned it. Hezbollah condemned it. Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad condemned it.
A friend in another state called me recently.  At some point we got onto the subject of world affairs and Bible prophecy.  He made the comment that “nothing seems to be happening in Europe at this time.”   This comment was made before yesterday’s events.  I expressed the opinion that a great deal was happening in Europe.   The massive influx of refugees and asylum-seekers is radically changing the social fabric of European countries.  Nations are losing their individual unique identity, as hundreds of thousands of Muslims from the Middle East and Africa pour in.
Rhodes cites Daniel Pipes, an individual connected with what some have called the Islamophobia Network.
As Daniel Pipes observed, each terrorist attack results in the common people moving to the Right politically, while the Establishment moves to the political Left.   (“Why the Paris massacre will have limited impact.” Nationalreview online, November 14th).   Mr. Pipes’ article also pointed out that the number of terrorist attacks by Islamists, since 9/11, is now 27, 269. ... Put another way, that’s five attacks per day.
November 20

Here Rhodes complains that immigration of Muslims has not been restricted.
Nothing has yet been done to change immigration rules.   President Obama was on the defensive when the issue came up – he said it was un-American to discriminate against Muslims, though that’s exactly what was done from the founding of James Town (in 1607) until the 1965 Immigration Act that was sponsored by Senator Edward Kennedy.   In the 1952 Immigration bill that became law, members of any organization that called for the overthrow of the US government and constitution, was forbidden to enter the country.   At the time, communism was the threat.   Today, it’s radical Islam. Both the religion and the Koran threaten the US.
Is Rhodes advocating for what he himself calls discrimination to be reimposed?
It was clear from what the President said that his agenda is to get as many into the country as possible, while bending over backwards to stay out of any conflict with radical Islam.   Obama is not the only one.   President Hollande of France declared war on ISIS after last week’s terror attacks, but his government remains committed to taking in 30,000 more Syrian refugees in the weeks to come.   Multiply that by 5 to get a US equivalent of 150,000.   The US is taking 10,000.
Rhodes also simplistically insists that Muslim immigrants despise the West.
When a devout Muslim moves to the West, rather than appreciating his newfound freedom, he will see the West as totally degenerate. Whereas Muslims are in submission to Allah, the West is in submission to the god of materialism and the pursuit of licentiousness.   They are two diametrically opposed ways of life.
How is that not Rhodes' view of Muslims?

Then Rhodes criticizes the survivors of ISIL's terrorist attack in Paris of November 2015 for saying they still believe in the goodness of follow human beings.
Although attitudes are hardening throughout the West and right-wing movements are gaining support, a lot of people are still clueless at the threat from radical Islam.   More than one victim in Paris remarked on how they still believe in the basic goodness of people.   They would do well to heed the words of the prophet Jeremiah who wrote:   “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.” (Jeremiah 17:9).   We are likely to see far more evil acts perpetrated by ISIS in the near future.
What a bizarre thing it is to see one criticizing survivors of that most terrible terrorist attack for not sharing his negative views of Muslim immigrants.

November 30

Here Rhodes mentions Pope Francis' visit to the Central African Republic, a land that has endured severe turmoil and violence recently, including violent attacks against the Muslims of the land following the fall of the Selaka regime.
Bangui is the capital of the Central African Republic, one of the worst failed states on a continent of failed states!   Most world leaders are not likely to even think about going there. But Pope Francis has just been there for two days.
Rhodes then bizarrely claims that ISIL is not the problem but Islam as a whole.
Besides, ISIS isn’t the problem so much as Islam.   ISIS is relatively new.   It simply exploits a hatred that’s already there, the hatred of Muslims toward all other religions.   The intellectual elite are fond of saying that all religions are religions of peace, but where is the evidence of this, particularly when it comes to Islam?
How does this comment not exonerate, or at least minimize the guilt of, ISIL? The problem is Muslims as a whole and not ISIL he seems to think. It is appalling to minimize the problem of the terrorists and murderers of ISIL in such a way.

Rhodes approvingly quotes the prime minister of Hungary seemingly ignoring the controversy that has long accompanied the current government.
The Hungarian prime minister made a profound comment last week, when he observed, that “not all migrants are terrorists, but all terrorists are migrants.”   That comment was immediately condemned, with people pointing out that many of the terrorists in Europe are home grown.
He insists that the problem cannot be really solved at present.
So long as Europeans and westerners in general see Islam as a peaceful religion comparable to Christianity, it will not be possible to deal with the problem we now face.
So living at peace with people of another religion is apparently a "problem" according to Rhodes.

He mentions that the terrorists of ISIL wants the United States to send troops against them.
The same morning, a one-hour documentary produced by Fareed Zakaria, interviewed the German journalist [Jürgen Todenhöfer] who is the only known westerner to have spent time in ISIS territory.   He said that ISIS wants US troops in Syria, that’s what they have been hoping for. Once they have western troops in Syria, their home turf, they will have a fulfillment of their long held dream, the apocalyptic battle between Islam and the West, the clash of civilizations liberals deny. Amongst other things, western forces will boost the number of ISIS volunteers.   Before the US invasion of Iraq, there was no ISIS or al-Qaeda in either Iraq or Syria.   It’s impossible to predict the outcome in the region of western coalition “boots on the ground.”
Rhodes then hysterically asserts that "Islam is the heart of darkness". Not ISIL.
A century ago, Africa was often referred to as the “Heart of Darkness,” after a novel of that name published in 1899.   Although the story was set in Africa, it wasn’t just Africa that had a heart of darkness; the white hero Kurtz, representing imperialism at its height, was also guilty.   Today, Islam is the heart of darkness, with ISIS, a fundamentalist resurgence of primitive Islam, threatening the peace and prosperity of the world.
Rhodes then asserts that the Islamic world has a "medieval mindset" that is stuck in the time of the Crusades.
Far from being ancient history, the Islamic world sees today’s western nations as “crusader states” and Israel as a revival of the twelfth century Kingdom of Jerusalem.   Their medieval mindset has not moved on from that struggle.
Is Rhodes projecting again?

December 7

Here Rhodes condemns the assertion that ISIL is trying to hijack the Islamic religion.
Emphasizing the point was a “terrorist incident” Saturday evening on the London Underground when a man with a knife attacked passengers, shouting: “this is for Syria!”   A passerby was heard screaming at the perpetrator:   “You ain’t no Muslim, bruv!”   This has become a famous hashtag, supporting the official line that Islam is a religion of peace and that ISIS is trying to hijack it.   President Obama reinforced this idea in his speech to the nation last night.
ISIL, the former Al Qaeda in Iraq, is trying to hijack Islam. It is strange that Rhodes finds that assessment controversial. Considering that ISIL did not even exist until the hate filled one, Abu Musad al Zarqawi, founded it as a clandestine terrorist organization in 1998 it is quite reasonable to view this terrorist organization as it is on its own terms and to criticize it as trying to hijack the Islamic religion to seize power for themselves. Not least because Islam has existed for so long before this most vile criminal network was founded in 1998.

Rhodes decides to insists that the West is in war with "Islam itself" ignoring the possibility that such talk is highly counter productive and will offend many innocent people who happen to be Muslim. This fails to distinguish the guilty and the innocent.
President Hollande of France has said that we are at war with ISIS. A number of US presidential candidates in the US have said the same. But nobody has yet stated the increasingly obvious, that we are in fact at war with Islam itself.
Hundreds of millions of people in the Middle East believe that this is the case.   From the Iranian revolution in 1979 through the Persian Gulf War, the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq,   Muslims have been convinced that they are in a war with the West.   When they see babies being pulled from the rubble after western planes bomb homes in Syria, they want revenge, they want to kill babies in the West.   Schools full of children, concert halls full of young adults, and disabled centers throwing Christmas parties are easy targets.   We will see more of them.
We’ve been denying history for fifty years, encouraging a mixing of races and religions, which denies historical reality.   Now we are paying the price.
Rhodes insists that it is not possible for Christians and Muslims to live together in peace.
In all the televised conversations that have followed San Bernardino, there has been no mention of the fact that no Muslim countries allow non-Muslims into their nations, except on short-term contracts. They believe strongly that “infidels” cannot live alongside believers. Yet, we in the West continue to believe that we can all live peaceably together.I do not believe this to be the case.   And, for that reason alone, we will see more and more attacks like the one on San Bernardino.
It is true that God made all men from one blood, but it is not the case that different religions and ethnic groups can all live together.
Of course Christians and Muslims can live together in peace. But if one chooses to believe that Muslims are as one movement and that if too many Muslims should happen to migrate to the United States or Britain it should somehow cause whites to lose their identity such a person will be not be inclined to learn to live in peace with such people.

December 9

Here Rhodes discusses Trump's proposal to stop all immigration of Muslims.
After Donald Trump’s call for a temporary halt in allowing Muslims to move to America, there has been a great deal of “moral outrage,” as CNN called it.   Prominent members of the liberal intelligentsia have been appearing on the various news channels.   Accusations of Trump being “un-American” are constantly being yelled out, even though America had no Muslims in its infancy and few until a change in the immigration laws fifty years ago.
Donald Trump has called for a ban on immigration to the United States by Muslims.  TV talk programs seem to have discussed nothing else since his controversial call Monday, which he referred to as “common sense.”
The liberal media, plus almost all politicians of both major parties, have condemned Mr. Trump and called him a “racist” and lots of other bad names.
Methinks they protest too much!   Why are they so determined to see so many Muslims in America?
What if they are right? Would ordering many people who just happened to be Muslim not to enter the United States really solve these problems? What about somehow arranging for peace and security to return in Syria? If there is no war in Syria ISIL would be far easier to manage.

Rhodes mentions the various attacks that have occurred.
The US is the leading nation of the western world.   The country has experienced a number of terrorist attacks by Muslims, including San Bernardino, Boston, Chattanooga, Garland, Fort Hood and 9-11.
But the perpetrators were criminals. It is concerning to label them Muslims as though that was a problem because this insinuates that all Muslims are somehow tainted with guilt. We must distinguish between the guilty and the innocent.

Rhodes nonsensically asserts that the media yearn for the extinction of the white race.
The question arises – why is the media so determined to see the end of the European races?   At the same time as ridiculing Trump, most news sources are seen praising Frau Merkel for her decision.
This wild accusation is so ridiculous it does not deserve a response. Rhodes should learn to stop viewing things through this non-factual xenophobia. That will not happen.

In the very next paragraph Rhodes calls for Americans to educate themselves about the Islamic religion and expresses concern that "a violent backlash against Muslims by other Americans" could occur.
Whatever you may think of Mr. Trump’s call to halt Muslim immigration at this time, Americans should be thankful the issue has been raised for one simple reason – any more attacks could easily result in a violent backlash against Muslims by other Americans. The population needs to be thoroughly educated on the religion and its goals toward the United States so that a responsible debate can take place.
It is jarring to see utter nonsense in one paragraph followed by a seemingly sympathetic thought in the next one.

December 18

A letter arguing that ISIL is a religious entity is quoted. Even though ISIL wants to be viewed in such a way this does not seem to be discussed.
