Reading PCG's Booklet, Hosea and God's Adulterous Wife, Part 2

Happy Pentecost to any COG reader who may be reading this.

Let us now continue looking through Gerald Flurry's booklet, Hosea and God's Adulterous Wife. Here Flurry uses the Book of Hosea to teach that the Great Tribulation is coming upon Britain and the State of Israel because of their supposed sins. This booklet was first published in 1996. This booklet was later revised in 2007 and 2010. It has since been renamed Hosea: Reaping the Whirlwind. You can read the current version of this booklet on their website. However I am here reading through the original 1996 version.

We continue on from Part 1 of this study starting at Chapter 2 beginning on page 13.

 Chapter 2

Here Flurry insists that Hosea is actually talking about the Great Tribulation descending upon Britain.

In pursuit of this Flurry quotes an article written by Raymond McNair from the August 1969 issue of The Plain Truth, entitled 'The Meaning of Britain's Royal Investiture' (p. 14.).

Even though Raymond McNair was now a heathen, wicked Laodicean who had committed adultery against Christ which is the most hurtful thing one can do to PCG's Christ Flurry will still quote an article of his. Of course McNair has since passed away.
God’s word came to Hosea, just like it came to Mr. Armstrong. And then God taught His word through Mr. Armstrong. God now entrusts His word to you. It’s up to you to hold on to it. God’s truth would not exist on this earth, if it weren’t for the PCG holding fast! (p. 14.)
Flurry then complains that the British do not know that their prosperity comes from God and is too closely aligned with Germany. Britain's close association with Germany will plunge Britain into unthinkable catastrophe. Also whatever the British value more then (PCG's) God will be removed in the Great Tribulation.
Do we have anything in our lives that we hold more precious than God? We had better remove it now, or God will remove it in the Tribulation. God wants us to live by His every word—not by some idol. God wants to remove our idols. He will accomplish this either through His words, or His rebuke. If that doesn’t work, then God will use chastening in the Tribulation. (p. 16.)
With talk like this it is no wonder so many PCG members are so intensely devoted to Flurry.

Flurry then claims that the British throne is actually the continuation of the throne of David. This is a British Israelism idea that was present among them from the very start with Richard Brothers. He then quotes Raymond McNair's article, 'The World's Oldest Throne', from the October 1969 issue of WCG's Tomorrow's World (pp. 17-18.).

Within McNair's quote there is an assertion that Jeremiah is buried in Ireland.
“To this very day, ‘Jeremiah’s tomb’ is believed to exist in
Northern Ireland, near Enniskillen, on Devenish Isle in Loch Erne. (p. 18.)
Recently Banned by HWA has reported that PCG is thinking of building a second college in Britain partly to search for the Ark of the Covenant in Ireland. No doubt they do this partly because they read what Raymond McNair wrote in Flurry's booklet.

Flurry then complains how Tkach's WCG has since renounced the doctrine of British Israelism.
One of the greatest tragedies in the Worldwide Church today is that they no longer believe what used to be taught by Herbert Armstrong about David’s throne. Could this precious knowledge of the true identity of England’s throne be lost again?

Satan has the power to blind mankind to God’s revealed knowledge (II Cor. 4:4). Because lukewarm leaders do not love the truth, Satan has gained the upper hand and is working quickly to blind as many unsuspecting Church members as possible.

All Worldwide Church members should be appalled that The United States and Britain in Prophecy has been removed from print. This was also done in the 1970s. Mr. Armstrong reestablished it. We all must face the cold reality that the men who wanted this book buried in the 1970s have successfully buried it now! What a great shame to these Laodicean leaders!

The Philadelphia Church of God is “holding fast” to the knowledge of the true identity of the British throne. Only Mr. Armstrong was commissioned to write this book. And only the PCG gives his version freely to anyone who requests it. (pp. 18-19.)
This renunciation just might have something to do with the fact that British Israelism has been proven to be complete nonsense as may be seen here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.
Do you imagine that the [British] nation would have allowed itself to degenerate as far as it has if the British people really understood about the throne? Do you think Prince Charles and Princess Diana would have divorced if they knew their heritage? (p. 19.)
It has always been implied by the doctrine of British Israelism that if only the British peoples knew the truth about their identity then they would behave in a more morally uplifting manner. Of course once people learn it is nonsense how can this false dogma do anything beneficial?
How do we get into God’s Kingdom? By supporting God’s government and His Work. We must back and support it with all of our being. That does not mean just giving money. We may not be financially able to give very much to the Work. But if we back and support God’s Work with our prayers and energy, we will be given a place in God’s family. God doesn’t lust for money or silver and gold. God wants us to build character. One important way to build character is to have our hearts in God’s Work. Then God knows that your “treasure” will be in His Work. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matt. 6:21). (p. 21.)
Flurry really wants to condition you to part with your money to support his organization.
And you urgently need to get behind this Work! God’s Philadelphia Church appreciates any kind of support you can give. We should all want to blow the trumpet for Palestine, Britain, the United States and the Laodicean Church. That is the way to show God’s love. We shouldn’t bury our heads or just try to protect ourselves. But we should be willing to stand up, even if it is only with a few people, and warn those we love about what is coming on this earth! We shouldn’t be ashamed of our message. We should have the attitude of wanting to deliver God’s warning message to the nations of Israel, God’s Church, and the world! (p. 23.)
Again the real purpose of this booklet and of most of his booklets is to reach out to those already familiar with HWA's teachings and persuade them to send in their three tithes and extra money to his PCG and also to discredit all other rival groups.
Herbert W. Armstrong warned them on radio, television, and through The Plain Truth magazine of the coming tragic events. Only the Philadelphia Church of God is continuing this same tradition. The lukewarm churches of God have publicly stated that they do not agree with Mr. Armstrong’s view of prophecy. (p. 23.)
The last sentence may well be true for Tkach's WCG but many other COG groups passionately believe in most of HWA's teachings, including much of what he taught as prophecy. Why does Flurry say untrue things?
Verse 10 shows that the modern nation called Israel, biblical Judah, follows in the same sins of Ephraim. The nation of Judah must also be warned. This work is yet to be done. Will the Laodiceans do this work? NO! Will the Philadelphia Church of God do this work? With God’s help—YES! (p. 24.)
Most of this chapter has been quite typical of what any COG group would say. Denouncing "Laodiceans" is distinctly Flurry's added touch to this typical COG teaching regarding Britain's prophetic future. This statement is based on his booklet, Malachi's Message But it must be stated that much of Gerald Flurry's "new revelations" in Malachi's Message are plagiarized from the writings of Jules Dervaes, specifically The Letter to Laodicea. In fact on September 26, 1990 Jules Dervaes sent a letter to Gerald Flurry in which he denounces Malachi's Message as "a direct and clear plagiarism" of his work.

Chapter 3

In the current 2010 version this chapter, entitled "Judah's Deadly Wound", has been merged into Chapter 2 and occupies pp. 25-9 of the current 2010 version. In the original 1996 version this occupied eleven pages (pp. 25-36).

In the original 1996 version this chapter is a condemnation of the State of Israel's participation in the peace process with the Palestinian Authority led by Yassir Arafat. No doubt a lot of the original 1996 content has been removed because it is now quite dated after the second Palestinian intifada began in 2000. The peace process since then has been severely weakened, a shadow of what it was before the intifada.
Is the 1993 peace pact with the Arabs the Israeli wound that God refers to in Hosea 5:13? There would have been no peace pact if Judah would have trusted God instead of men. (p. 26.)
It clearly was not because this peace pact fell apart with the beginning of the second Palestinian intifada in 2000. There have continuously been attempts to get things going again but it is simply a shadow of its former self.

Flurry then talks about various terrorist suicide bombings in 1996 conducted by some Palestinians in sometimes quite graphic detail (pp. 26-28). Not too surprisingly all that has been removed from the current 2010 version in order to make it seem more up to date.

Then Flurry fear mongers that Europe is rising up to destroy America and Britain and a part of this (he claims) is that Europe is trying to interfere with this situation. He cites a speech by French President Jacques Chirac to the Palestinian Authority and condemns it as being treacherous to the State of Israel (pp. 28-30).

Of course all that has since been removed from the current 2010 version in order to make it more up to date.

Flurry ends his condemnation of the peace process by accusing Yassir Arafat of actually plotting to destroy the State of Israel and creating a single Palestinian state (pp. 35-36). I do not know whether this is true or not but I certainly would take Flurry's word for it. Of course since Arafat passed away in 2004 all of that has since been removed.

Chapter 4

(This is now Chapter 3 in the current 2010 version.)

In this last chapter Flurry assures the readers that despite the great wrath (PCG's) God will soon unleash upon the (mostly so-called) Israelitish nations PCG's God really loves the Israelitish nations and the wars all will be well.

In the next quote where Flurry says Ephraim he really means Britain.
Ephraim’s great fault is its idolatry. The word “workman” means artisan or craftsman. It is well known that England excels in technical ability. One of their greatest achievements has been the development of nuclear energy for domestic and military purposes. Could this be Britain’s calf? Could Britain think their nuclear power will get them through another war? ...
England relies on its “craftsmen” for protection rather than God. They worship their technical ability—they “kiss the calves.” ...
Britain will soon become ashamed of its “craftsman” or experts. Do you really want to rely upon the experts? No human being or idol can ever deliver what a human being wants. Do we have some idol that sits between us and God? If we do, God wants us to get rid of it now. (pp. 39-40.)
What!? What did Flurry just say! Britain is to be sent to the Great Tribulation because Britain relies on their "technical ability"? That is why Britain is doomed to be crushed, occupied and enslaved by the Germans? That is why PCG's God is so angry?

I am speechless. I am not even going to dignify that with a response.

Flurry ends his booklet with these words.
God is going to renew His tenderness for Britain and all of Israel. Britain will have learned their spiritual lessons so deeply that God will restore their former glory. Only this time the glory will be far greater because they will be full of the knowledge of God. They will show forth the fruits of God’s Spirit. God’s Church, Britain and Judah have a fantastic future. Let’s all pray more fervently—“thy Kingdom come”! (p. 42.)
So we have now learned from Flurry that Hosea's three children are really symbols of PCG, Global COG (now altered to LCG) and UCG.

Flurry thinks Britain is doomed to be crushed, occupied and enslaved by the Germans for trusting in her "technical ability". Whatever that means.

Flurry hates the peace process between the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authority and falsely implied it was Judah's deadly wound. This is a false prophecy.

And Flurry seems to think Jeremiah's tomb is in Ireland. He quotes Raymond McNair saying this is the case and Flurry does not contradict him.

Overview of the July 2014 Philadelphia Trumpet

Happy Pentecost to any COG readers who may be reading this post.

The July 2014 issue of PCG's recruitment magazine, The Philadelphia Trumpet, is now out. Let us see what they have to say.

Gerald Flurry has a personal article claiming the US is ruled by a bunch of wimps who let their enemies treat the US with contempt. He says this is a sign the Great Tribulation will soon occur.

Richard Palmer (he who belittled the Srebrenica massacre as just "a crime of passion") has an article about the current crisis in the Ukraine.

Richard Palmer (he who says farmers should leave the fields fallow every seven years) also has article about whether there is life outside Earth.

Robert Morley has an article about the stand off between right wing extremists against federal agents over Cliven Bundy's cattle.

Robert Morley also has an article about credit card fraud and gives advice on how to avoid such things.

Dennis Leap has an article about blood moons and notes that it is just a natural occurrence. However he also claims that there will be a supernatural occurrence of blood moons in the future during the Great Tribulation and the Day of the Lord.

David Vejil has an article claiming that the US and Britain are descended from Biblical Israel. Too bad for him that British Israelism is complete nonsense as may be seen here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. [Update: The previous nine links can also be read here. Also see DNArefutesBI. My thanks to Black Ops Mickey.]

Gerald Flurry has an article about the Times of the Gentiles. HWA and his followers have had a most tortured history with this idea. In fact it was one of the reasons why Herbert W. Armstrong began to teach that Christ would return in 1975.

Stephen Flurry has an article nonsensically claiming that 2014 is just like 1914. That is just blatant fear mongering. Of course I make no claims to know what will happen in the future but I say that in my opininon 2001 and 2003 were much more apocalyptic then today.

There is a "Bible Study" article about developing emotional maturity.

World Watch has a few articles about world events but nothing I feel worth mentioning here.

Stephen Flurry has a little article saying that every negative command (Thou shalt not...) actually has a positive aspect to it (Thou shalt do this and that.) and that therefore (PCG's interpretation of) God's law is the most positive law there is. Many ex-PCG members will beg to differ.

Society Watch has a couple of doom and gloom articles claiming society is disintegrating because of (PCG's) God's wrath.

Robert Morley also has a little article about the greatness of the Universe proving that God exists.

The cover is illustrated by Gary Dorning. For some reason I find a picture of Uncle Sam holding a white mask somewhat disturbing. I am sure that was not the author's intention but I cannot help but think of such things seeing that picture and those words. It makes think of the Ku Klux Klan. And why did it have to do entitled "Lost Identity". There happens to be a virulently racist and anti-Semitic strain of British Israelism that happens to be called "Christian Identity". I am not implying in any way that any of this is intended. I am simply describing what the cover makes me feel.

Have a Happy Pentecost

Although it is wrong and inaccurate for the COGs to claim that all other churches are in error and are not Christians for observing the mainstream Christian holidays and festivals I wish to say happy Pentecost to any COG reader. There is nothing inherently wrong with observing this day to try to honor God. But I will repeat that it is wrong to claim all other Christians are false because of the mainstream festivals they observe.

Reading PCG's Booklet, Hosea and God's Adulterous Wife, Part 1

Let us now look through Gerald Flurry's booklet, Hosea and God's Adulterous Wife. Here Flurry uses the Book of Hosea to teach that the Great Tribulation is coming upon Britain and the State of Israel because of their sins. This booklet was first published in 1996. This booklet was later revised in 2007 and 2010. It has since been renamed Hosea: Reaping the Whirlwind. You can read the current version of this booklet on their website. However I am here reading through the original 1996 version.

The cover is illustrated by Steve Wilkins, the same man who made the cover illustration for Gerald Flurry's 1995 booklet, The Little Book. In the current 2010 version this has been replaced with a picture of a tornado.

Recently I have noticed that in so many of Gerald Flurry's booklets he essentially restates what he said in Malachi's Message, that (insert name of Biblical book here) is all about the Tkach changes, the rise of PCG in opposition to this, that PCG will go to the place of safety and all others will face punishment in the Great Tribulation. Will he talk about that in this booklet?

We now begin.
Like all of the minor and major prophets in the Old Testament, the primary focus for the book of Hosea is the end time. The message delivered anciently was only a type of what is occurring today. Hosea was written first of all to God’s adulterous wife in this end time. That is how the book is introduced in the very first chapter. That has not been understood before—not until now! God deals with His Church first because that is the most important issue—BY FAR. (Introduction.)
Of course when Flurry talks of "God's adulterous wife" he really means WCG and all his rivals among the other COG groups. Already he is repeating what he said in Malachi's Message.

Chapter 1
God has REVEALED to me a great deal more about the book of Hosea. We have shown in the past that Hosea is specifically addressed to the British peoples of the nations of Israel. ... The first part of the message is about God correcting His adulterous wife. God commands Hosea to take an adulterous whore as his wife. The main purpose for Hosea marrying this woman is to illustrate the behavior of God’s wife in “the latter days” (Hos. 3:5). Hosea, like all of the minor and major prophets, primarily focuses on the end time. ...

God’s Church has “committed GREAT WHOREDOM, DEPARTING from the Lord.” You can’t DEPART from God if you never knew Him! The nations of Israel have never known God since He divorced them. ...

Hosea is discussing GOD’S OWN CHURCH WHICH WAS MARRIED TO THE OMNIPOTENT GOD IN THIS END TIME! So, when they turn away from Him, it is no small sin—it is a GREAT whoredom! (pp. 1-2.)
Again, as suspected, this booklet is once again repeating what Flurry said in Malachi's Message.
We have proven in much of our literature that God’s Church entered the Laodicean era when Herbert W. Armstrong died. God heaps much praise on the Philadelphia era, over which Mr. Armstrong presided (Matt. 17:10-11; 24:14; Rev. 3:7-8; etc.). But when the Philadelphia era ended, the Church became Laodicean (Rev. 3:7-19). (p. 2.)
That is Flurry's stance on the issue of Philadelphians and Laodiceans. In HWA's WCG it was tended to be assumed that the Laodiceans would not be made manifest until the worthy WCG members ran away to the place of safety. All those left behind would be the Laodiceans. This is a change of teaching that Flurry has introduced. A "new revelation" that supposedly reveals (PCG's) God's special favor upon him. Flurry teaches that God only gives revelation one man at a time therefore it is necessary for salvation that one must submit to this one man. Of course he says the one man is himself, Gerald Flurry.
Only the Church is Christ’s wife today (Rev. 19:7). So Hosea’s wife of whoredoms is a picture of God’s Laodicean Church turning away from Him—after having a wonderful marriage during the Philadelphia era of Herbert Armstrong. This great whoredom is the same as the great falling away in II Thessalonians 2, written about extensively in Malachi’s Message (write for your free copy). There is simply no other logical explanation of the first chapter in Hosea. (p. 2.)
Was HWA's WCG the picture of "a wonderful marriage" with God the Father? Is that the truth? Let me quote these words from a previous post.
The unity everyone [supposedly] loved [from 1979-1986, which is often viewed as a sort of golden age among the COGs] was created by destroying friendships and relationships with anyone who failed to conform to WCG's demands or were accused of being in league with the "dissidents" and "liberals". ... [Observe the quote from Roderick C. Meredith here, for instance.]

Many WCG members continued to fear going to doctors or taking medicine because of HWA's anti-medicine superstition which he stole from the Jehovah's Witnesses.

HWA banned racial interracial marriage. It is very hard to get more racist than that.

Women were not allowed to wear makeup. In one article HWA even accused the problems of the 1970s were caused because WCG allowed women to wear makeup. HWA banned makeup because he saw his daughter Beverly wearing too much makeup one day and he disapproved so strongly he banned makeup. HWA reimposed this ban partly to coerce his wife, the former Ramona Martin (nee Crittenden) hoping this measure would compel her to divorce him. It did not work. He had to divorce her.

HWA claimed that Jesus Christ would return within the 20th Century. He even said this in Mystery of the Ages, a book so greatly revered among those who wish to follow HWA. It bears useless fear inducing false prophecy. (PCG erased those words in their copies so you will not find it there.)

HWA told WCG children that Jesus Christ would soon return, before 2000. [Link inactive.]

HWA was a divorced man.

In December 1984, HWA belittled a TV ad for a charity trying to feed staving children as "an emotional appeal for donations". [The link no longer works but you can read the letter cited here.] Unlike most people he could have done a lot to help that charity but, not only did he choose not to help but he unfavorably compared it to The World Tomorrow program and praised himself as the only one really working to solve the world's problems.

HWA claimed the Plain Truth had eight million issues in circulation. Actually it was never higher then "slightly over six million." (Larry Nichols and George Mather, Discovering the Plain Truth, p. 39) Why did HWA lie about this?
This is what Flurry seeks to portray as "a wonderful marriage"?
“So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son” (v. 3). The first child, a son, was named Jezreel. It says Gomer “bare him [Hosea] a son.” That expression is NOT used when referring to the other two children. In verse 6, it says she “bare a daughter.” In verse 8, it says she “bare a son.” The Soncino Commentary speculates that this indicates the last two children were not begotten by Hosea—they had other biological fathers. That is exactly right! Here’s why. God is telling us precisely what is occurring in His end-time Church. The first Church to be “cast out” or leave the Worldwide Church of God (WCG), was the Philadelphia Church of God (PCG). No other Church of any significance came out before we did. ...
The only other two significant groups to leave the WCG during the Laodicean era are the United Church and the Global Church. We have proven clearly how they have rejected God’s government and their Head—Jesus Christ. (For more information, write for our free booklets Colossians and God’s Family Government.) Spiritually, THESE TWO CHURCHES ARE ILLEGITIMATE! (p. 3.)
So there you have it. Hosea's three children are a prophetic sign that three main splinter groups will arise from the Tkach changes. Only the first one, PCG, is legitimate. The other two, the Global Church of God and the United Church of God, are illegitimate because they do not pay tithes to Flurry. Of course Flurry is simply repeating his "new revelation" that the various books of the Bible are all about the Tkach changes, the rise of PCG in opposition to that, that PCG members go to a place of safety while all others are left behind to endure the Great Tribulation.

I understand why he cites God's Family Government. That booklet was made in 1993 in direct response to the establishment of the Global Church of God. I am not so sure why he cites his booklet that uses Colossians, except to demonize "Laodiceans".

Also the current 2010 version has updated "the Global Church" to "the Living Church" naturally.
In a little while, the nations of Israel are going to fall—and God’s Laodicean churches will fall with them. That means the PCG only has a very short time to warn the nations of Israel and God’s rebellious churches! That is why the emphasis of our message is a warning! The Great Tribulation is coming fast and soon. (pp. 3-4.)
It is now eighteen years since this booklet was published. Did those reading these words in 1996 except this present world to still be here eighteen years later?
Gomer had a daughter by an adulterous union. They are all “children of whoredoms” because they came from a Laodicean mother. But THE LATTER TWO CHILDREN WERE ILLEGITIMATE. Their biological father was not Hosea. And Christ is not the spiritual Father of the last two major churches to leave the WCG! That means God is not leading them. Christ is not doing His Work through them.

LORUHAMAH MEANS GOD WILL “NO MORE HAVE MERCY.” Please notice carefully. God once had mercy on them—BUT NO MORE! That is because they have rejected their Husband! As a penalty, God is going to “utterly take them away”—into the Great Tribulation.

“Now when she had weaned Loruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son. Then said God, Call his name Loammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God” (vv. 8-9). Loammi means “you are not MY people.” They were God’s people in the Philadelphia era. But that is now history. Gomer “bare a son”—Hosea was not his father.

These are very ugly statements about God’s own Church. God help the people who take these terror-striking prophecies lightly! These prophecies are unfolding before our eyes. God’s own Church must heed or pay horrendous penalties!

The mother and her two rebellious children (representing all the dissenters) reject the GOVERNMENT taught by God through Mr. Armstrong! That means they are rejecting Jesus Christ as their Head—their Husband!

Hosea married this evil lady to illustrate that point. Hosea’s wife scorned his AUTHORITY. So did the latter two children, who followed their mom’s example. The whole subject is about a GOVERNING OFFICE being rejected by God’s own Church. (p. 4.)
So we see Hosea endured the humiliation of his wife bearing two illegitimate children simply to tell a small religious group in the 1990s (when this booklet was first published) that the Global Church of God and the United Church of God must not be joined or else one will not receive PCG's God's favor.
Christ is going to “betroth thee unto me for ever.” The firstfruits are going to marry the Son of God—FOREVER!

That is the most exalted reward ever given to mankind. And it is only offered to those who qualify to marry Christ, before He returns. (p. 6.)
It is a doctrine taught by HWA and in PCG that the resurrected church members will occupy a higher rank and be greater then all other members of the God Family who will be born afterwards. This is also taught by LCG as I personally saw in a sermon by Syd Hull.
How does it happen? Why this magnificent change? THEN THE WHOLE EARTH “SHALL HEAR JEZREEL”! Remember, Jezreel was the first son of Hosea. His wife Gomer “bare him a son.” The very message that is being taught today by the PCG, or Jezreel, IS GOING TO BE THE SAME MESSAGE HEARD IN THE BEAUTIFUL WORLD TOMORROW! THAT IS BECAUSE THE PCG IS THE ONLY CHURCH THAT IS LETTING CHRIST DIRECT US TO DO HIS WORK IN THIS END TIME! (p. 6.)
Here Jezreel, Hosea's first child, is claimed to be a prophetic symbol of PCG today.

Flurry is most anxious to persuade readers that he is the only legitimate continuation of HWA's WCG. Until he was fired in 1989 Flurry was just another minister, unimportant among the elite leaders of the "true church". He was unable to persuade any high ranking persons from WCG into his following. Instead Meredith and his collaborators then another large group of ministers left to form their own splinter groups ignoring Flurry. Most WCG members, whether they supported the Tkach changes or not, were unmoved by his "new revelation" that the Bible was all about the Tkach changes and the rise of PCG and so did not join PCG. Flurry knows this and consequently constant proclaims himself to be the only man who can grant people the protection of God.
God’s end-time Church committed adultery and whoredoms, shattering that wonderful marriage! This is the worst pain God’s Church can cause her Husband, Jesus Christ! We can see this if our view is through the mind of Christ (Phil. 2:5). But we cannot think like a spiritual slut and expect to understand the pain that spiritual adultery causes our Husband. (p. 7.)
Here Flurry yet again condemns and demonize "Laodiceans" for refusing to pay him money. He will say anything to indoctrinate people into giving him money.

After all that Flurry claims that the Laodicean ministers fail to measure God's law, ignoring the fact that many of the other COG groups are quite devoted to enforcing the teaching most of the rules and regulations devised by HWA's WCG (pp. 7-9.).
People can give profusely to earthquake and hurricane victims, but that is not solving our foundational problems. People are being DESTROYED FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE—SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE FROM GOD! That is the raging, super-desperate need of this world!

God’s Church was given this knowledge and became His priests—His only true Church! His only Work! Now they scorn that knowledge—THE VERY SOLUTION TO ALL OF THIS WORLD’S PROBLEMS! (p. 9.)
Flurry does not like PCG members devoting themselves to charitable work. He wants them paying tithes to his organization. Flurry condemns Tkach's WCG for giving money to charity as has been noted in posts regarding 1990 version of Malachi's Message and the current version of Malachi's Message.

Also it needs to be stated that much of Gerald Flurry's new revelations in Malachi's Message are plagiarized from the writings of Jules Dervaes, specifically The Letter to Laodicea. In fact on September 26, 1990 Jules Dervaes sent a letter to Gerald Flurry in which he denounces Malachi's Message as "a direct and clear plagiarism" of his work.

Then Flurry proclaims that (PCG's) God has given PCG a commission to warn the royal family of Britain about the Great Tribulation.
We are sent by God to warn the nations of Israel. We have a specific commission to warn God’s own Laodicean Church. This is what Malachi’s Message is all about. We also have a specific commission to WARN THE ROYAL FAMILY OF BRITAIN—“GIVE YE EAR, O HOUSE OF THE KING”! THEY SIT ON THE MOST IMPORTANT THRONE THAT HAS EVER BEEN ON THIS EARTH! (p. 10.)
After this he talks of a trumpet-blowing work and says that PCG is fulfilling this command to warn the Americans, British and WCG members and ex-WCG members who do not pay tithes to Flurry.

At page 12 we reach the end of Chapter 1. The rest of the booklet will be looked at in a future post but here is a brief preview of the other chapters.

Chapter 2 uses the Book of Hosea to claim that Britain will soon be plunged into the Great Tribulation.

Chapter 3 ("Judah's Deadly Wound") uses the Book of Hosea to claim it condemns the State of Israel's participation with the peace process with the Palestinian Authority led by Yassar Arafat. Flurry condemns the peace process and says the State of Israel should have relied on God and they would have then overcame all obstacles if they did so. This was made before the second Palestinian intifada began in 2000. (Noticeably this chapter has been cut out of the current 2010 version and merged with Chapter 2.)

And Chapter 4 ends with Flurry's assurances that PCG's God does love everyone and that after the indescribable horrors of the Great Tribulation and the Day of the Lord all will be well.

To be continued...

Reading PCG's Booklet, Jonah: A Strong Warning to God's Church

Let us now look through Gerald Flurry's booklet, Jonah: A Strong Warning to God's Church. Here Flurry uses the Book of Jonah to say that those who understand "the truth" must respond to it or else face dire punishment. This booklet was first published in 1996. It was later revised in 2004. That is the version looked at in this post. You can read this booklet on their website.

Let us see what he has to say. I wonder if it is like so many of his booklets in which he says (insert name of Biblical book here) is actually all about the Tkach changes, the rise of PCG in opposition to this, and only PCG members will get to the place of safety while all others will endure the Great Tribulation. Will this booklet do that as well?
The word of God also came to the Philadelphia Church of God (PCG). God’s people are commanded to deliver this warning message along with what has already been revealed to Herbert Armstrong. ...

We can never escape our responsibility to deliver God’s message and still live—physically, spiritually or both! ...

People who receive God’s message and won’t deliver it are called wicked. If we fail to deliver God’s message, we die physically because of this failure! And 50 percent of God’s people die forever for not repenting of this sin! That is how fearfully serious it is when God reveals His message to us. ...

The most cardinal sin we can commit is to fail to deliver the message God personally gave to us! It is a monumental sin that destroys us forever, unless we repent! Jonah is a book about what happens to people who either deliver God’s message or fail to do so. It applies to all people who have had God’s truth revealed to them. ... They, like Jonah, must learn there is a prodigious penalty for running from the job God gave to them. (pp. 2-3.)
If you like what I am saying to you then you must give me money (three tithes and extra offerings) or else PCG's God will kill you!

This Flurry will say anything to get more peoples' money.
However, Jonah only received a pittance of what God revealed to Mr. Armstrong and the PCG today. So if God was angry with Jonah, He must be wrathful with the Laodiceans today! Concealing so much of God’s truth is a mountainous crime. If we bury God’s message, He is going to bury us. (p. 4.)
Behold how Flurry denigrates this distinguished forerunner of the faith. No wonder Flurry so cynically injects his legend of Malachi's Message (that the Biblical prophesies are all about the Tkach changes, the rise of PCG and that only PCG members will go to the place of safety) into more and more Biblical books. If even Jonah "only received a pittance" of divine revelation why would Flurry and his collaborators treat the Book of Jonah with any respect? Instead of letting it say what it says Flurry makes it parrot Malachi's Message.
And Flurry often does this.

We now continue.
When God reveals His message to us, we automatically become messengers. We must deliver God’s message. How serious is it if we fail to do the job? We shall die forever! And that means we must deliver precisely the message God reveals to us. ...

We must ask God to reveal our own evil heart and then change. This is our only hope. God is sick of phony repentance and phony religion. We MUST remove any obstacle to our delivering God’s urgent message! This is how we put God first in our lives. (p. 5.)
If you want to keep the money you earned or inherited to better yourself and your family or give you are wicked and God does not love you. That is what he really means here.
The message was to “Nineveh, that great city.” The Hebrew reads: “a city great to God.” Why was Nineveh so great to God? God must have believed that Nineveh and the Assyrian empire would repent. And they did.

Whether the world realizes it or not, Nineveh is the great hope to the nations of this world. ... It was a shining example of what can happen to evil nations. It should be a great encouragement to the nations today! And it will be an example for nations in the World Tomorrow to see what could have been! (p. 7.)
Flurry speaking nicely about Assyrians. How unusual. Usually Flurry presents Germany as the great threat that in the future will destroy America and Britain in a future World War III.
The word of God came to Mr. Armstrong and the Philadelphia Church of God as it did to Jonah. Now God’s Philadelphians must collectively support this message—or receive a fate worse than Jonah’s! (p. 8.)
Pay us money or PCG's God will kill you. If you do not pay us then you must be wicked. Flurry is once again crudely threatening his readers that they must do as they told or else face the Great Tribulation. He is trying to induce an irrational phobia that Germany will soon destroy America and Britain. Alas, many PCG members truly believe these threats and that is why so many stay in PCG despite all the things that go on there.
Any person can prove when a message is from God! If they don’t believe God, it is still a witness against them (Matthew 24:14). So much tragedy could be avoided if people would believe God. If they don’t, then their own weak faith is the problem. The whole world would be in the PCG if they believed God! Because that is where God’s only message and work is! (p. 9.)
 You'd like that, wouldn't you?
One of my Ambassador College professors, Dr. Herman Hoeh, said that Germany even thought of proclaiming a national repentance before the world, after World War II. But then they decided against it because there was no precedent. They thought no nation had ever done such a thing. They didn’t even know the Bible history of their own nation! How sad. (p. 10.)
What on Earth is Flurry talking about? That is why so many Germans were put through De-Nazification courses in order to free themselves from Nazi ideology and stop thinking as this ideology dictated to them. And also many prominent leaders from the German nation have tried to address the crimes of the Nazi era and manage relations with those who were slain and oppressed by the Nazis and their heirs. So actually many Germans are trying to responsibly manage relations with the victims of the Nazi regime.
God said, “I am broken with their whorish heart.” The word broken means “broken-hearted.” The Laodiceans act like their Husband is a statue with no real love for His bride. Their betrayal has left Him broken-hearted. Any husband who loves his wife should be able to understand that emotion. (p. 10.)
Here Flurry is once again inciting hatred of "Laodiceans" in order to keep PCG members isolated from other COG groups in order to keep PCG members thinking that they can only join PCG and must remain in it or else lose God's favor.

God is saying in the strongest words that you don’t really know Him if you don’t believe His message! The Laodiceans have rejected God’s message and therefore don’t truly know Him. What a scathing condemnation. (p. 11.)
So believing in God is taught to be the same as believing what Gerald Flurry says, according to him.
God has “not said in vain” that He would punish them. How did God say this to the Laodiceans? This is being done mainly through the PCG’s warning message. The Philadelphians speak for God and are telling the Laodiceans of the evil that will come upon them. This is what the Laodiceans are going to remember in the Tribulation. (p. 11.)
This is a major reason why PCG was able to build itself up so quickly. Flurry was able to exploit the widespread disaffection with the Tkach changes among many WCG members and rallied them to resist the Tkach changes by joining PCG and then try to convert as many WCG members and ex-WCG members to join PCG as possible. However inevitably PCG reached its saturation point and, presumably, growth in membership among WCG members dried up or at least slowed down to an unsustainable level. This was inevitable.

But instead of accepting this as a fact of life in 2000 Flurry petulantly ordered PCG members to shun all Laodiceans and have no contact with them, even with close family members. This was done as a crude and heartless attempt to coerce WCG members and ex-WCG members not paying tithes to PCG to join PCG by blackmail. Of course most people seeing such extremist behavior only looked on in heart broken horror at the level of authoritarian depravity PCG has seen fallen into.

(Also, hypocritically, this does not seem to be enforced among PCG's leaders such as Stephen Flurry, who interviewed Aaron Dean (UCG) and Roderick C. Meredith (LCG) while doing research for his book, Raising the Ruins. Just look at the footnotes.)
The fourth chapter of Jonah presents another problem. Jonah was very angry that God saved Nineveh. Once we run away from God’s work, I believe it often has lasting damage. Jonah still seemed to have an attitude problem. The Laodiceans lose a large portion of their reward because of their running from God today. (pp. 13-14.)
One of the peculiar doctrines Flurry teaches is that even the Laodiceans who repent in the Great Tribulation will only be given a small role in ruling the World Tomorrow. He says even after they repented and are glorified as God beings they are still of a lower rank than the glorified PCG members.

In other words Flurry will still be mad at you for not paying him money even during the afterlife as a God being for all eternity.

Flurry ends with these words.
If God will warn a great city before He destroys it, He will certainly warn great empires. He is doing just that in this end time. That grave responsibility has fallen upon God’s Philadelphia Church. God wants us to see how terribly important His message is. We must be deeply sobered and moved when “the word of the Lord came unto” the Church of God! (p. 14.)
Intriguingly the cover for the current version of this booklet (which you can see at the link above) was made by one Darrel Tank who works with Goodsalt.com. Take a look for yourself. It is certainly not COG. So PCG which constantly denigrates "false Christians" and even orders PCG members to shun members of rival COG groups uses an image made by one of these "false Christians" (who probably never at any time believed HWA was used by God) to illustrate one of their booklets.

So we see that once again Flurry has simply used another book of the Bible, this time Jonah, and applied the script for Malachi's Message onto Jonah.

Also Flurry tries very hard to persuade the reader here that to please God one must join PCG or be cursed with the Great Tribulation because not acting upon what Gerald Flurry tells you is wicked and will guarantee PCG's God's wrath.

Reading PCG's Booklet, Nahum: An End-Time Prophecy for Germany

Let us now look through Gerald Flurry's booklet, Nahum: An End-Time Prophecy for Germany. This booklet was first published in 1996 and later revised in 2000, 2005 and 2011. I am reading through the 2005 version for this post but it appears to be very similar to the current version. You can read the current version of this booklet on their website.

Let us see what Flurry has to say.

Flurry says Nahum wrote his message, not speak it, therefore PCG must speak for his message for him today (p. 1.).

Flurry condemns mainstream Christianity for presenting Christ as a sentimental wimp.
Nahum was a very poetic writer. He wants us to see that God is full of fury and wrath. He is about to take vengeance. That should strike fear in Germany and the entire world. But they have been deceived by a pagan Christmas message that just focuses on the baby Jesus in a manger.

When was the last time you heard of Christ as an avenging destroyer? This world does not know the true God—and that includes the world’s religions! (p. 2.)
Here Flurry alludes to HWA's ban on Christmas which PCG continues to cruelly enforce upon PCG members in order to keep them socially isolated from the surrounding society in order to exploit them more effectively. This doctrine was inherited from HWA, who plagiarized this idea from the Jehovah's Witnesses who banned Christmas among themselves in the 1920s.

In this booklet Flurry focuses upon the supposed punishment Germany shall receive after destroying the United States, Britain and the State of Israel in the Holy Land.

Flurry says natural disasters are the result of (PCG's) God's wrath.
How does God express His wrath? ... God inflicts the wicked with hurricanes and tornadoes. He sends storms, which bring flooding and destruction. ... God dried up the rivers and sent a drought that withered all these regions! God will devastate Germany the same way. (pp. 2-3.)
Flurry says that PCG has a duty to warn the German people not to go on the warpath and destroy America, Britain and the State of Israel in the Holy Land.
“The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him” (verse 7). “The day of trouble” refers to this end time. God promises to be “a strong hold” and protect any German person who heeds His warning. God doesn’t want anyone to suffer through this fiery furnace. But the dreadful Day of the Lord is almost here and only the faithful saints will be protected. It is a conditional promise. We must trust God in an atmosphere where most of God’s own people are lukewarm! God inserted verse 7 for His people who are warning Israel and Germany. The people who are doing the work of an end-time Jonah. (p. 3.)
Flurry fear mongers that the Germans are on the verge of committing atrocities that will make World War II look tame.
Around 50 million people were killed in World War II. Deaths in World War III will eclipse that number by billions! Bible prophecies reveal that most of mankind will be dead when Christ gets here! (Matthew 24:21-22). (p. 4.)
In Flurry's opinion the other nations of the world are already groveling before Germany and this is even before the dreaded military leader arises who will worship Satan and be his tool.
Soon, Germany will be ruled by a man more cunning and deceitful than Adolf Hitler.

America, Britain and the Jewish nation of Israel almost grovel before Germany today. Britain tried that approach before World War II with Hitler. That approach will bring about our destruction! Instead of listening to God, they will try to deal with this vile leader who devises evil against God! Satan will inspire this man to send a flood—probably an army—after God’s own people as they are taken to a place of safety (Revelation 12:14-16).

We must not forget that Satan is worshiped by Germany and the “Holy” Roman Empire (Revelation 13 and 17). This German leader will be working directly for Satan! (pp. 4-5.)
It is nonsense to say America, Britain and the State of Israel "almost grovel before Germany today." Is that really true? No, it is not. But Flurry has strong motivations to convince you that is the case. He is trying to make you scared that World War III is just around the corner so you had better pay Flurry and Co. three tithes and extra offerings to get to the place of safety.

He also makes this statement.
The name Holy Roman Empire or German Reich will be sown no more forever! (The name German actually means “war man.”) ... What fantastic news for all the Earth! (p. 5.)
The word German was inherited from the Romans. The Romans were never able to conquer the Germans so they labeled them war men. And because Latin heritage was passed on through the century we still use the name the Romans used for them. But the Germans do not call themselves that. They call themselves Deutsch.

Flurry then states that he is prophesied of in the Book of Nahum and that he bears the responsibility of warning the German people not to go on a warpath. He is staking his claim to be the only legitimate successor to HWA's WCG.
Who is the “him” bringing the message of Nahum to the world? You must look to one man—and only one man—who has this majestic message today. He and God’s loyal remnant will be proclaiming prophecy of such great news that it overshadows all the bad news!

God says you can see the feet of him that publishes peace. We must not spiritualize this away. It is clearly prophesied that a man would be delivering the terrifying news about World War III—and the wonderful peace beyond!

God always works through one man. You must find the man if you are to support God’s work. He has feet and he uses them (figuratively) to deliver God’s message. His life must be dedicated to doing God’s work. Or God wouldn’t give him new revelation. ...

Only the Philadelphia Church of God is receiving new prophetic revelation from God today. Only we teach the whole truth about Nahum—and all the minor prophets—and the major prophets.

The Philadelphia Church of God (PCG) has been given the Nahum commission directly from God! We must not fail! Nobody else fully understands this message.

The message of Nahum and other prophets must be delivered now! Nahum only wrote this message in a book. Today is when this message must be delivered and the feet seen. Do you see the feet of him who publishes this message of peace? The PCG rises at the same time as the old Babylonian system (Habakkuk 1:5-6). (pp. 6-7.)
Flurry boasts that "Only the Philadelphia Church of God is receiving new prophetic revelation from God today" but I cannot help but notice that these new revelations essentially build up on Malachi's Message. PCG is not flooded with new revelation, he just expands upon or repeats what he wrote in Malachi's Message. It is the same revelation repeated from a different angle.

Also it must be stated that much of Gerald Flurry's new revelations in Malachi's Message are plagiarized from the writings of Jules Dervaes, specifically The Letter to Laodicea. In fact on September 26, 1990 Jules Dervaes sent a letter to Gerald Flurry in which he denounces Malachi's Message as "a direct and clear plagiarism" of his work.

Flurry then continues to state that Germany is going to be greatly routed by Russia and China during the final end time events. He also alludes the fall of the Roman Catholic Church at this time but he never states directly that he means them. On page 9 he cites some of the old inscriptions of ancient Assyria to claim that Germans have always had militaristic tendencies.

Flurry boasts that it is obvious that the Germans are descended from the Assyrians.
Historians know the Assyrians have a bloody history. And modern historians know Germany has had an unparalleled history of causing bloody wars. What most historians don’t know is that the Assyrians and the Germans are the same people. However, this fact is easy to understand—if you know secular history, Bible history and Bible prophecy. But even secular history alone should give you that understanding! (p. 10.)
Actually the idea that Germans are descended from the Assyrians comes from British Israelism. Originally the British Israelism movement viewed the Germans as fellow brothers of the British. But later leaders decided otherwise as mentioned in a previous post.
Edward Hine (1825-1891) arose after [John Wilson (1799-1870)] and he rejected Wilson's identification of Germans as Israelites but instead identified Germany as Assyria, and furthermore taught that the biblical struggle between Israel and Assyria would repeat itself in the future. He taught that Assyria was also lost like Israel and "the modern-day Assyrians were none other than the Germans." Furthermore these two nations "were destined to continue the struggle" in the future. ([Michael Barkun, Religion and the Racist Right: The Origin of the Christian Identity Movement,] p. 11). HWA adopted this same idea of Germany's ancestry and its future of the great physical adversity of Israel from Hine.
So we see that Flurry is actually depending upon the writings of this obscure movement for his assertion that Germans are Assyrians.

Also it should be stated here that DNA evidence conclusively proves that Americans and British peoples are not descended or related to the Jews. British Israelism is false.

After this Flurry fear mongers that America and Britain will enter into some kind of alliance with Germany only to be utterly betrayed.
God says we must declare Israel’s abominations to them. We must prophesy about Israel’s abominable sins and the violent double-cross by the Germans! God says we must declare it! No other church can or will do so! (p. 11.)
Actually there are many COGs that also believe that Germans are Assyrians and teach that the Germans will soon destroy America and Britain. Why is Flurry misleadingly implying that no one else outside of PCG knows of these things? In fact this sort of talk is quite common among the COGs. Why does Flurry say untrue things?

But what is not quite so common among the COGs is to tie this in with the Tkach changes and demand members of WCG and all other COG groups (labeled "Laodiceans" by Flurry) to immediately join PCG or be left behind to face the Great Tribulation.
Just before Germany attacks, God’s Laodicean Church defiles His sanctuary and profanes His sabbaths, or holy days. This evil is occurring in God’s Laodicean Church right now! God commands that we declare the Laodicean abominations as well. ... The wonderful news is, if the Laodiceans—or anyone else—heed our warning, they can escape the German nuclear attack! What a wonderful physical blessing that would be. (pp. 11-12.)
After that Flurry quotes a news article to make his fear inducing prophesies seem somewhat realistic. The news article is about Patrick Nicholls resigning as vice-chairman of the Conservative Party in Britain and saying that Britain should leave the European Economic Community/European Union (p. 12.).

Flurry then brings up HWA.
America and Britain helped greatly in rebuilding Germany. But they ignored the message of Herbert W. Armstrong. Even as Germany was being destroyed, he prophesied that it would rise again and inflict far more destruction than World Wars I and II combined! For the most part, that message went unheeded. Now Britain and America are about to pay a bloodcurdling price for their rebellion against God! (pp. 12-13.)
Why was HWA ignored? It might have something to do with the fact that Herbert W. Armstrong confidently predicted that Germany would triumph over Britain and America during World War II. HWA prophesied that Hitler was the Beast who would destroy Britain and America. But the British and the Americans did not listen to him but instead defeated and routed the German foe.

But despite this specular prophetic failure HWA continued to claim that Germany would arise from the ruins and destroy the United States and Britain. He later said this occur in 1972-5 shortly before Christ's return in 1975. He continued to make this fear inducing false prophecy until his death. Maybe that is why the Americans and the British did not listen to him.
The Holy Roman Empire started about 1,500 years ago. The seventh and last resurrection is now forming on the world scene! (p. 14.)
The Holy Roman Empire actually started in A.D. 800 with the coronation of Charlemagne by the Pope. That is about 1,200 years ago, not "about 1,500" as Flurry says here.

Flurry is probably referring to the Byzantine Empire of A.D. 554-800 which, according to HWA's teachings, constituted the first of seven revivals of the Roman Empire. That is called the Byzantine Empire. No one calls them the Holy Roman Empire. Well, except for this small religious movement started by HWA in order to make some of their prophetic speculations seem more logical and coherent then it actually is.

Would you trust a man who makes careless statements like this to know God so well that he will lead you to a place of safety?
Who is warning about Germany today with any impact? Only the PCG! The book of Nahum must be delivered. This is the message we must deliver to Germany. (p. 16.)
How many Germans are even aware that PCG exists? I strongly suspect very few.

Of course if Gerald Flurry had not squandered more then PCG's annual income in building Armstrong Auditorium maybe he could have gotten more publicity for PCG's message in Germany.

Flurry ends this booklet with these words.
We are on the brink of a nuclear disaster in this world. Germany is going to trigger a nuclear war that would destroy all life from this planet if Christ did not intervene. No scholarly denial will change that future! God’s true Church must deliver the warning of this coming holocaust. It is the world’s only hope to avoid nuclear catastrophe. (p. 17.)
And so another of Gerald Flurry's booklets comes to an end.

Similar to every booklet of his I have read so far he claims the Book of Nahum talks about the Tkach changes, the rise of PCG and that only PCG can escape the Great Tribulation. PCG is not flooded with new revelations, instead Flurry simply applies the ideas of Malachi's Message onto other Biblical Books. Sometimes he adds a little detail but such details merely build up upon what he wrote in Malachi's Message.

And Flurry says the Book of Nahum is talking about Gerald Flurry.

Reading PCG's Booklet, From the Beginning

Let us now look through Gerald Flurry's booklet, From the Beginning. This booklet was first published in 1996, one year after the founding of UCG. It was later revised in 2001. In this booklet Gerald Flurry uses the writings of the Apostle John to assert that PCG members need to learn a wondrous "from the beginning" vision this is taught in the writings of John. What is this from the beginning vision discussed here? You can read the current version of this booklet on their website. That is the same version read here.

Chapter 1
The Philadelphia Church of God (PCG) started by rejecting a government of men. We are commanded to only follow men who follow God (I Cor. 11:1).

The history of God’s Church was blotted out from A.D. 70 to 170. God’s Church entered A.D. 70 as a commandment keeping Church and surfaced in 170 as a very different church, according to historic records. A great false church destroyed the true records. The only place in the whole world where you will find an accurate record is in I, II and III John! That gives you some indication of how severe the persecution was. (p. 2.)
Actually it was not "historic records" that revealed this, it was HWA who taught this. In fact there was no dark century. It is now known that much of what HWA said in proclaiming that there was a dark century is now to be totally in error.

Intriguingly this statement contradicts HWA's teaching in Mystery of the Ages that this "dark century" began in A.D. 50 and ended about A.D. 150.
How men are confused about these prophecies. Most people think John revealed the book of Revelation. A tiny few think this revelation came from Christ. They are all wrong. The Father gave this revelation to Christ, who then gave it to John. (p. 3.)
This is a straw man argument. Often when people talk about the revelation of John they often talk as though it was from John but this is done with the unstated implication that it is from God. So this must be regarded as a straw man argument.

He says only by submitting to PCG can one receive revelation from God. Namely the new revelation Flurry preaches which claims various books in the Bible are all about the Tkach changes and the rise of PCG.
The Apostle John was the only Church leader who received revelation from God at that time. God always reveals through one man at a time. Revealing to three or four groups simultaneously would be utter confusion. That is not the way of God’s government. But many rejected God’s government taught by John. And MANY of God’s people are making the same mistake today by rejecting the government taught by Mr. Armstrong. When you reject God’s government, YOU ALSO CUT YOURSELF OFF FROM ALL OF GOD’S REVELATION! (p. 3-4.)
So you must send that money in right now which pays my income, he really means.

Furthermore he also asserts that unless one agrees with him with a childlike attitude that PCG is the only true church then such a one is blinded by the Devil.
God only reveals to babes, or those who have childlike attitudes (Matt. 11:25; 18:1-3). That means the people of God’s own Church, if they rebel, cannot even understand the specific Bible prophecies about themselves! They can’t grasp their own Church prophecy, even as it is being fulfilled. (p. 4.)
Agree with me. If you don't you will blind yourself to the truth, and not pay me money as you should. That is what he really means.

Flurry cannot stand talk of love outside of a law of love.
The Laodiceans today talk endlessly about love. But it is a phony love. As we get into John’s epistles, he expands on that love. He discusses a LAW of love—or a law that is God’s love (I John 5:3). God’s government is a government of love. But Diotrephes was getting into a false love which allowed him to kick John and his followers out of the Church. Spiritually, Diotrephes was removing himself from God’s true Church. IT WAS ALL DONE IN THE NAME OF LOVE! That is why John discusses this subject so much in his epistles. It is critical that we understand God’s true love. (p. 6.)
Even the Apostles did not have the full truth, unlike Flurry and his followers in PCG.
These parallels helped cause the apostles to think the end was coming in their time. That helped them to have a stronger message then and for us today. And perhaps that is a major reason why Christ didn’t reveal the whole truth to them. (p. 7.)
So PCG members are more enlightened then the pioneers of the Christian faith who wrote the New Testament.

Then Flurry talks about Paul and uses Acts 20 to claim, like HWA, that a great apostasy occurred soon after the time of the Apostles, as in common among the COGs (pp. 7-10.).
If the wonderful truth God has revealed to us remains in us, we “shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.” This is an ironclad way we can avoid deception. There is no excuse for being deceived after we have received God’s revealed truth! (p.11.)
Flurry then talks about the close intimacy between God the Father and God the Son. He then talks of the closeness between Jesus and John.
John refers to himself as the “disciple whom Jesus loved” (John 20:2). There was a special closeness between John and Christ. “Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23). This also refers to John and Christ. Jesus had a special love for John, partly because of John’s depth. But, more importantly, John was given special attention and preparation for the GREAT WORK HE WAS TO DO after all the other apostles were dead. (p. 12.)
"partly because of John’s depth." Shouldn't that by John's depth of understanding or John's depth of faith? John's depth? What does that mean?

Flurry then talks about how the interaction between God the Father and God the Son is a perfect and most intimate family relationship. There is no roon for selfishness within this sort of unity.

Also Flurry casually regards "the Laodiceans" as being just like Lucifer and Diotrephes mentioned in III John.
All men must get this message or they have no future. We must have the Spirit of Jesus Christ—not the spirit of Lucifer, Diotrephes, or the Laodiceans. (p. 15.)
Join PCG or you will have no future worth living, Flurry actually means here.
God has called us to be sons of God—sons of the Father—bride of Jesus Christ. This is the MOST EXALTED HONOR GOD CAN GIVE!

Less than one percent of all humans who have ever lived will be given this glorious opportunity of being at the bride level in the God family! (p. 15.)
It is a peculiarity of Armstrongism that it is asserted that church members will have a greater rank and more privilege then any human who becomes glorified after the second coming.

Flurry then talks about the phrase "from the beginning" as used in the writings of John to say that John was greatly focused upon the per-incarnate glory of God the Son before he was conceived in the womb of Mary. It is somewhat obscure what the point of this focus is in that most Christians have this same doctrine that Jesus was God for all eternity before He was conceived in the womb of Mary. They may believe in the Trinity unlike HWA but they tend to agree that Jesus existed before he was conceived.

He ends this chapter with these words.
John did his best to make this message plain. Still, many of God’s people lost their salvation. Many saints are making the same mistakes today. It is the GREATEST POSSIBLE TRAGEDY ON THIS EARTH TODAY! Not because of any punishment they receive, but because they are rejecting the HIGHEST CALLING AND REWARD THAT GOD GIVES TO ANY HUMAN BEINGS EVER! (p. 17.)
Chapter 2

In this chapter Flurry aims to persuade the reader that only PCG is the legitimate successor to HWA's WCG.

On pages 19-20 Flurry quotes the March 19, 1981 co-worker letter to say that HWA was the end time Zerubbabel. A peculiarity of Flurry's teachings is the particular emphasis he tends to place on identifying HWA as the end time Zerubbabel. He taught this in Malachi's Message. Also he says there was an end time Joshua who is identified with Tkach Jr., as far as I can tell.

Flurry condemns UCG's decision to not have one man rule as was done in HWA's WCG. He then uses this piece of information to claim all other COGs do not have God's government.
Let me give you an example of how badly they measure God’s law and government. One member of the board of directors in the United Church of God sent out a packet of their beliefs to many of their members. That church left the Worldwide Church of God early in 1995. Here is a quote from one of those letters: “We find it interesting that the only one of the ‘18 Truths’ restored by Mr. Armstrong which has not been changed by the apostates [referring to current WCG leadership] is the ‘truth’ about church government. Those men are so deceived they cannot see that is the only one which needed to be changed.”

God called Mr. Armstrong to “restore all things” (Matt. 17:10-11), not these leaders. Yet these men think they can reject the government God established through him.

Here is a quote from another one of their board members (March 17, 1995): “Learning to work, in a NEW FORM OF GOVERNMENT, will be the principal challenge” (emphasis mine). The problem is GOD HAS GIVEN THEM NO AUTHORITY TO MAKE SUCH A CHANGE! This is where the Laodiceans are measuring so badly today. (p. 22.)
In fact most COGs have one man rule. True, most are them are far smaller, many are just one congregation, but they practice the same type of government as that used within HWA's WCG.
Why does Flurry say untrue things?

Flurry then talks about the two trees from Genesis 2-3 and then claims that all other COG groups aside from PCG have somehow disqualified themselves from God's blessing and protection.
We must choose between HUMAN INTELLECT—man’s own reasoning—or the tree of life—REPRESENTING REVEALED KNOWLEDGE FROM GOD (see Amos 3:7-8). The PCG has kept all of the revealed knowledge God gave to Mr. Armstrong. All of the Laodicean groups have rejected at least part of that revelation. Therefore, GOD HAS GIVEN THEM NO NEW REVELATION SINCE MR. ARMSTRONG DIED! BUT THE PCG HAS BEEN FLOODED WITH NEW REVELATION. We are the only group that is eating from the tree of life! And you can prove it. Because the Laodiceans have rejected God’s revealed government, God will not use them to do His work. (p. 25.)
Did PCG preserve the knowledge that HWA taught that prophets under the New Testament dispensation have no administrative power over lay members? That is what HWA taught from 1953 until his death in 1986, even stating this traditionally understood dogma in his last book, Mystery of the Ages, which has now been deleted by PCG in their copies.

PCG is not flooded with new revelation. Flurry simply repeats what he says in Malachi's Message again and again. He sometimes adds little details or throw in a little speculation but essentially most of his writings simply build up what he wrote in Malachi's Message.

Also Flurry implies that "the Laodiceans" have rejected "God's revealed government" but in fact many COG groups outside of PCG enthusiastically embrace the same type of government as embraced by HWA, namely one man rule. Why does Flurry inaccurately accuse so many "Laodiceans" of committing such a thing when they do no such thing?

Why does Flurry say untrue things?

After that Flurry talks about Satan and says his problem was that he refused to submit to "God's government".

Then Flurry quotes from a sermon by HWA. He loves to bring up this sermon. Flurry portrays this sermon as being a prescient warning from HWA that something might go wrong after his death. Flurry portrays this as the result of remarkable foresight. He had previously mentioned it in his booklet, The Little Book. Is that really the case? Here is his quote.
Mr. Armstrong’s made this very strong, condemning statement in his sermon on Pentecost, May 26, 1985—a few months before he died: “Why is this Church the firstfruits of God’s harvest for His Kingdom?... Brethren I want to say to you, I think that most of you don’t understand that at all. I think that most of you think it merely means that God chose us to get into the Kingdom first and then they’ll come in later. That is not the answer at all. And I perceive that even our ministers, when they preach, take it for granted that the whole goal is to get us into the Kingdom of God and that’s all we’re called for now and for no other purpose—but we’ll get in ahead of the others.... There is a reason why we’re the firstfruits! And I wish I could drive that home. But I fear that MOST OF YOU JUST DON’T GET IT. YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND IT AT ALL. WHY? WHY ARE WE THE FIRSTFRUITS? I’m going to try to make it plain this afternoon and STILL I THINK YOU WON’T GET IT.”
How terribly prophetic those words have proven to be! Mr. Armstrong perceived that many ministers and members did not understand this precious truth. We can’t rule with Christ if we don’t even understand His family government. (pp. 26-27.)
Reading that quote it seems to me that HWA is not complaining that a great apostasy is about to be unleashed as Flurry seem to imply here and elsewhere. Rather HWA seems to be discussing a fine point of his doctrine concerning why WCG members are supposedly called to the truth earlier then the vast majority of humanity.

You can read or listen to HWA's sermon for yourself online. Is it really what Flurry portrayed here?

Also Flurry condemns the other COGs and claim they place too much emphasis upon the person of Christ instead of his message.
Please notice, it is His MESSAGE that we must DECLARE. God’s Laodicean churches have only a hazy view of this message. That is why they are deceived. They focus too much on the messenger and not enough on the message. That is why their ministers measure so badly! (p.28.)

Oh how quickly HWA's accusation against mainstream church are effortlessly twisted to demonize PCG's competitors and rivals among the other COGs. Just so he can get more tithes.

He continues this criticism with these words.
This is happening now in God’s own Church! This is how Satan deceives the Laodiceans. Christ says not to believe these men. Why? Their focus is too much on the personality of Christ—not His MESSAGE

The PCG always discusses the message of Christ. We encourage people to “prove all things,” then they can know where Christ’s message is. Every group says Christ is with them. But they are not willing to prove that they have the same message Christ revealed to Mr. Armstrong. That’s because they know they don’t have the full revealed truth! (p. 28.)
After that he continues condemning "the Laodiceans" and claiming they wish to gain pre-eminence among church members and that they use a different form of government.

Chapter 3

Flurry then talks about how glorious HWA was. He also continues to falsely accuse all other COGs of not practicing God's government.
He restored ALL things—including the GOVERNMENT of God—by far the most important doctrine of all. Except for the PCG, all of those members Mr. Armstrong left behind have rejected that doctrine! That means they have also rejected Mr. Armstrong as the end-time Elijah. These Laodicean groups must somehow FEEL THEY ARE ELIJAH TYPES TO MAKE SUCH A RADICAL AND DANGEROUS GOVERNMENT CHANGE! (p. 32.)
This is nonsense. Many COG groups have one man rule just as HWA's WCG did. They may not be quite as popular as PCG but they do practice that doctrine. He is just trying to gain power over new converts to claim that only PCG has "God's government".

Flurry claims to be like the still, small voice that Elijah heard in I Kings 19 on Mount Sinai.
A strong wind broke the rocks on the mountain in pieces. Then there was a shattering earthquake. After that, a fierce fire. But God was not in the strong wind, earthquake, or fire. However, He was in the “still small voice.” What was God’s point? God does not often manifest Himself in mind-shattering physical events. Usually He comes in a still small voice. But it is still the same omnipotent God! You must learn to recognize God in that “still small voice”—LIKE IN WHAT YOU ARE READING  RIGHT NOW! (p. 34.)
So we see what Flurry says.
BOTH OF THESE MEN HAD THIS VISION FROM THE BEGINNING! And in both cases it comes down to finding A MAN who was doing the Elijah work—who was delivering God’s message “from the beginning”—even though it is prophesied that most people would not even recognize these Elijahs (Matt. 17:10-13). (p. 36.)
What Flurry really means is, you are to follow me, Gerald Flurry or else you cannot not get to the place of safety and there is a fifty per cent chance you will be cast to the lake of fire, and if not you will be executed by the European Beast Power.

After discussing Elijah's flight to Mount Sinai in I Kings 19 Flurry then finally reveals what he really means when he talks about "God's government."
Many of the end-time Laodiceans talk about “THE EVILS OF A ONE MAN GOVERNMENT.” That means THEY MUST REJECT GOD’S END-TIME ELIJAH! It is a message inspired by a rebel called Satan. One of the Laodicean leaders said it was wrong to apply scriptures to Mr. Armstrong. That too is satanic. If God applies scriptures to a man, we must do it too. (pp. 36-37.)
Turns out this from the beginning vision is largely about finding the one man doing God's work and staying with him andsubmitting to his one man rule. How convenient for Gerald Flurry.

In arguing that "the Laodiceans" have been blinded by the Devil Flurry claims that they are unaware of Satan the Devil.
Since Mr. Armstrong’s death, most people familiar with the Worldwide Church of God know that church has divided into many different groups. A newspaper previously called In Transition (since changed to the Journal) covers much of the news of many of these different groups and what each one believes. I have read several articles from two or three issues discussing the government controversy in several groups. Not once have I seen the word Satan in that newspaper! Satan has torn the Laodicean Church apart, and they are OBLIVIOUS TO THE MAIN ENEMY WHO HAS DEVASTATED THEM! (p. 38.)
Actually many of these "Laodiceans" very often talk about and think about Satan the Devil. They happen to believe that there is a Satan the Devil. Why does Flurry say untrue things?

Also Flurry says Satan has caused the great scattering of the COGs after the Tkach changes.
It is all “after the rudiments of the world”—that expression means “ruling spirits of the universe.” That refers to Satan and his demons, who have power and influence that reach beyond this Earth. It is this frightening power that has overwhelmed the Laodiceans. (p. 39.)
What a way to simplify matters like that. It must be nice to just blame the devil when bad things happen.
Most of the Laodiceans today even boast of how they have “a new government.” They know they do not have the government God taught them through Mr. Armstrong. (p. 39.)
Flurry is actually talking about UCG. Do most "Laodiceans" claim to have a new form of government? In fact many do not because most of them has one man rule among themselves.

Flurry threatens the reader that if they do not do the right thing and join PCG then "eternal failure" awaits.
This all happened before man was even created. If we understand Satan FROM THE BEGINNING, we realize this is THE SUPREME WARNING TO GOD’S OWN CHURCH—either administer God’s government or be an eternal failure! (p. 40.)
He also mentions the turmoil within WCG in the 1970s.
When you read of the serious WCG problem in the 1970s, Mr. Armstrong often spoke of Satan’s attacks on God’s Church. He knew who the real enemy was. Only the PCG thinks that way today. That is not a boast—it’s reality! (p. 41.)
In fact many in the other COG groups are very much inclined to view bad events as being caused by Satan the Devil. So we must say that Flurry actually is just boasting. This statement is certainly is not reality.

Flurry also reveals that "God's government" really means one man rule in the following paragraph.
John discussed the LAW again and again. He personally was God’s human government that Diotrephes rejected. He was the one-man rule at that time. (p. 41.)
Flurry also describes God's government as being one man rule in his booklet, Isaiah's End Time Vision.

Flurry also mentions in passing who he says Job is.
Tradition and history indicate that Job built the great pyramid. He was a splendid architect. However, he thought he was so great that he challenged God. Then God showed him how He built the whole universe—how it was FROM THE BEGINNING. A great architect indeed. (p. 42.)
This is complete nonsense. Actually this idea is derived from pyramidology which was discussed in a previous post.
Pyramidology originated from one John Taylor (1781-1864) who became convinced that the Great Pyramid could not have been made by the Egyptians but must have been made by Israelites. This idea then passed to Charles Piazzi Smith (1819-1900). As a vessel of divine revelation the Great Pyramid was interpreted as giving clues to what will happen in the future. He used the measurements of the Great Pyramid to claim that Christ would return in 1882, then at other points from 1892 to 1911.
This post also mentions how Charles Taze Russell, founder of the Watchtower Society (Jehovah's Witnesses), also embraced Pyramidology. Also HWA dabbled in Pyramidology. In fact it was while he was researching that topic that he stumbled upon and then embraced the false doctrine of British Israelism.

Chapter 4
The last warning to the Philadelphia era was to “let no man take your crown” (v. 11). That is precisely what the Laodiceans are allowing! They have lost God’s family government that was given to them by Herbert W. Armstrong. They have lost what they received from the beginning about crowns, thrones and their calling to rule the Earth as a part of God’s family government! They have lost almost everything that means anything! (p. 45.)
While this criticism may well be accurate regarding the Tkachite WCG it must be stated that the other COG groups who exist outside of PCG continue to believe these doctrines wholeheartedly. Why does Flurry say untrue things?

Also Flurry continues to criticize "Laodiceans" and say they are utterly foolish beyond imagining.
Like Diotrephes, the Laodiceans want the preeminence now. How pathetic. God wants to give them royal thrones over billions of people in the World Tomorrow and eventual rule over the whole universe. And they want preeminence over a few people or things today in this evil world! (p. 45.)
Flurry also claims that being a PCG member is very good in God's eyes.
That is why we are called God’s jewels—or, as a better translation renders it, His “most prized treasure” (Mal. 3:17). That should reveal to us how important God’s family is to Him. Nothing else even comes close to being as important! That means we must fit into God’s family government. In any stable family there is government. We are holding fast to the GOVERNMENT that is going to shape the lives of billions of people. It is the ONLY GOVERNMENT THAT HAS EVER WORKED! Now is the time we must submit and prepare for those prodigious responsibilities. (pp. 45-46.)
No wonder so many PCG members will not leave despite all the things that happen.
We must be clothed with the very righteousness of God. That means if we go to a movie, we take Christ with us. Christ is with us when we watch television. Whatever we do, it is done with God and His righteousness. (p. 46.)
After this Flurry talks about HWA's teaching that the Earth was originally created many years ago but was destroyed with the rebellion of Lucifer causing the Earth to be destroyed and necessitating its recreation in Genesis 1-2. Of course the entire reason he recites this is to accuse those other COG groups of being like Lucifer in his rebellion (pp. 47-49).
The Laodiceans have lost the vision because they trust in evil human reasoning. ... Satan’s nature PERMEATES HUMAN INTELLECT AND HUMAN REASONING. We cannot TRUST OUR OWN MINDS. (p. 50.)
So just listen to Flurry as he continues to live off of the money you send to him. Only he understands what is really going on since you cannot trust your own mind. Ignore that feeling of unease as you wonder why your family is in financial straits while you send so much money to some organization based in Edmond, Oklahoma. You can't trust your own mind. So he says.
They all agreed that the first-century Elijah was John the Baptist. Today all of the Laodicean churches of God reject Mr. Armstrong as the end-time Elijah. They all reject the government Christ taught through him. (p. 51.)
This is not true. Many "Laodiceans" believe that HWA was the end time Elijah. Why does Flurry say untrue things?

Then he insinuates that "Laodiceans" do not believe that HWA was an Apostle.
Mr. Armstrong was also an apostle—the only end-time apostle sent by God. And yet the Laodiceans say Mr. Armstrong didn’t even fulfill that role, as he taught us. There is deep division in God’s Church today on these crucial issues. (p. 52.)
In fact many of the COG groups outside PCG believe that HWA was an Apostle. Indeed I heard Meredith himself state that HWA was an Apostle in his 2000 sermon, The Elijah Question. Why does Flurry say untrue things?
There will be no STRANGERS ruling in the God family. We cannot disagree on MAJOR ISSUES like God’s family government today AND STILL EXPECT TO RULE WITH THAT GOVERNMENT IN GOD’S FUTURE WORLD!

We are fellowshiping with Mr. Armstrong today if we accept his crucial Elijah role and the government he taught. It is dangerous to take lightly any doctrine that such an exalted office taught. Very dangerous. (p. 52.)
How dangerous is it? Flurry changed HWA's doctrine that Prophets have no administrative power over lay members. Flurry even deleted words from Mystery of the Ages that related that teaching. Flurry seems to have no worries about changing doctrines from God's end time Elijah.
Today, we hear many people in the Laodicean churches talk about the “evils of one-man rule.” No wonder they reject Mr. Armstrong as being God’s end-time Elijah! You can’t follow the one man whom God sent or sends if you believe that satanic doctrine! Major Bible prophecies reveal that one man would be the critical leader in this end time (Zech. 4:9-10; Mal. 3:1-2; 4:5-6; Matt. 17:10-11; Rev. 3:7-8). Only rebels reject these prophecies! (pp. 52-53.)
Again many "Laodiceans" have one man rule as taught and practiced by both HWA and Flurry. Also many "Laodiceans" believe that HWA was the end time Elijah. Why does Flurry say untrue things?

What Flurry really hates about these other COG groups is that they are not paying three tithes to him.

Flurry keeps on condemning "Laodiceans" for doing away with one man rule.
That is the same government Mr. Armstrong used. He did—in terms of numbers of people—what was probably the greatest work ever on this Earth. Yet the Laodiceans he taught reject that government. By so doing, they imply that God’s work can be done without God’s government! The opposite is true. The Laodiceans rebel by eating from the tree of human reasoning. They reason around God’s government. Mr. Armstrong did such a great work only because he did administer God’s family government. The fruits prove that to be true. (p. 53.)
Again many "Laodiceans" have one man rule just like HWA's WCG and Flurry's PCG. Even the hated Meredith reverted to one man rule in 1998 after splitting from the Global Church of God. Why does Flurry say untrue things?

Anyone complaining about the problems of one man rule is listening to the Devil, so says Flurry.
Lucifer was given God’s government, but then refused to administer it. Now he is working feverishly to get God’s people to follow him—as one third of the angels did. He is the author of statements like “the evils of one-man rule.” And God’s Laodicean Church has bought his philosophy. (p. 54.)
Also many "Laodiceans" have one man rule just like HWA's WCG and Flurry's PCG. But they do not pay Flurry money. That is the real reason he hates them so much.
If YOU are spiritually discerning, you know THIS REFERS TO HERBERT ARMSTRONG AND WHAT HE BUILT! God is discussing a one-man rule and you must SEE what he built with God’s government. You can study in detail what he built. Then you will know God sent him. This is not A GUESSING GAME. WE MUST KNOW THROUGH WHOM GOD BUILT HIS END-TIMEWORK!

If God sends a man who lays the foundation and finishes a great work, we must know God was behind it. Our salvation depends on it. That is why God says you shall KNOW. In time, everyone is going to see what Mr. Armstrong did and accept it—or go into the lake of fire! That is because God sent that man. (p. 56.)
So accepting that HWA was a man sent by God is requirement to be saved, so says Flurry. Here Flurry threatens the reader's eternal salvation. No wonder so many PCG members are so motivated to believe whatever they are told.

Also note how Flurry here admits that "God's government" is really just a euphemism for one man rule, namely the rule of Gerald Flurry.
It is only through this one man that we were taught to build. That is why a small remnant knew how to measure for God when Mr. Armstrong died (Rev. 11:1). He taught us that from the beginning vision and we cannot be deceived—if we hold fast. It was a ONE-MAN RULE IN THE GREATEST WORK OF THIS END TIME. (p. 56.)
Again God's government is just a euphemism for one man rule.

Also note how Flurry says "a small remnant knew how to measure for God when Mr. Armstrong died". This is just an elaborate way of referring to the WCG members who joined PCG. "Measure the temple" is really a euphemism for joining PCG and working with them to gain more converts from WCG members and ex-WCG members.

Flurry ends this booklet with a call for PCG members to study HWA's writings.
Go back to the beginning of Mr. Armstrong’s life with God. Study his Autobiography (vol. 1). ...  He was used by God for over 50 years to build the Philadelphia era of God’s Church. See how he measured and built. THEN FOLLOW HIS EXAMPLE, AND YOU WILL FIND THE LIVING GOD! ...

Study what Mr. Armstrong built, stone by stone (v. 18). Carefully study Mystery of the Ages and his other major writings.

The harvest is not in yet. God can still bless your life if you have not yet heeded (v. 19). If you go back to Mr. Armstrong’s beginning, you’ll capture this vision “FROM THE BEGINNING.” (p. 58.)
It might help if PCG did not alter HWA's writings whenever they liked. Already Gerald Flurry's PCG has changed Mystery of the Ages, The Proof of the Bible and Who or What is the Prophetic Beast? There may very well be more. How can PCG members understand HWA if PCG just changes his writings whenever they please?

Summary

So we see that this booklet essentially covers the same topic as his 1993 booklet, God's Family Government which was discussed in a previous post. That booklet was written in response to the founding of the Global Church of God under Meredith. It is tempting to say From the Beginning was written in response to the founding of UCG as well, although I feel that I do not know enough about this topic to be sure about that. Nevertheless it is worth noting that the only "Laodiceans" he cites by name in this booklet is UCG or In Transition (later The Journal). If this booklet was written in response to UCG's founding it must be stated that this booklet completely failed to prevent UCG from becoming the largest COG splinter group by gathering up about 20,000 WCG members under its fold.

Instead of focusing directly on doom and gloom prophesies he says that the reason so many within WCG have since moved on from HWA's teachings is that they lost sight of this "from the beginning vision". Essentially this "from the beginning vision" appears to be simply to remember that Christ was God from all eternity along with God the Father, who is really in charge. The pre-incarnate glory of Christ. However it must be questioned what this really means. Most Christians happen to believe that Jesus Christ was God through all eternity before being conceived in the womb of Mary. Although they often believe that within a Trinitarian context this does not change the fact they have this "from the beginning vision" as well. The vast majority of Trinitarian Christians have this "from the beginning vision" already.

Also Flurry uses this opportunity to teach what the Apostle John really meant to indulge in a lot of condemning the other COG groups and claim they are illegitimate offspring of HWA's WCG, even at one point threatening readers with the lake of fire on page 56 if they do revere HWA in the way Flurry demands. Only PCG is the true successor he says.

So we see this booklet is just another attempt by Flurry to recruit more members for PCG in order to get three tithes and extra offerings and to persuade readers that it is necessary to do what they are told by those above them within PCG.

Also readers may be interested to read this previous post in which I also discussed From the Beginning back in 2009.
