Overview of the July 2014 Philadelphia Trumpet
Happy Pentecost to any COG readers who may be reading this post.
The July 2014 issue of PCG's recruitment magazine, The Philadelphia Trumpet, is now out. Let us see what they have to say.
Gerald Flurry has a personal article claiming the US is ruled by a bunch of wimps who let their enemies treat the US with contempt. He says this is a sign the Great Tribulation will soon occur.
Richard Palmer (he who belittled the Srebrenica massacre as just "a crime of passion") has an article about the current crisis in the Ukraine.
Richard Palmer (he who says farmers should leave the fields fallow every seven years) also has article about whether there is life outside Earth.
Robert Morley has an article about the stand off between right wing extremists against federal agents over Cliven Bundy's cattle.
Robert Morley also has an article about credit card fraud and gives advice on how to avoid such things.
Dennis Leap has an article about blood moons and notes that it is just a natural occurrence. However he also claims that there will be a supernatural occurrence of blood moons in the future during the Great Tribulation and the Day of the Lord.
David Vejil has an article claiming that the US and Britain are descended from Biblical Israel. Too bad for him that British Israelism is complete nonsense as may be seen here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. [Update: The previous nine links can also be read here. Also see DNArefutesBI. My thanks to Black Ops Mickey.]
Gerald Flurry has an article about the Times of the Gentiles. HWA and his followers have had a most tortured history with this idea. In fact it was one of the reasons why Herbert W. Armstrong began to teach that Christ would return in 1975.
Stephen Flurry has an article nonsensically claiming that 2014 is just like 1914. That is just blatant fear mongering. Of course I make no claims to know what will happen in the future but I say that in my opininon 2001 and 2003 were much more apocalyptic then today.
There is a "Bible Study" article about developing emotional maturity.
World Watch has a few articles about world events but nothing I feel worth mentioning here.
Stephen Flurry has a little article saying that every negative command (Thou shalt not...) actually has a positive aspect to it (Thou shalt do this and that.) and that therefore (PCG's interpretation of) God's law is the most positive law there is. Many ex-PCG members will beg to differ.
Society Watch has a couple of doom and gloom articles claiming society is disintegrating because of (PCG's) God's wrath.
Robert Morley also has a little article about the greatness of the Universe proving that God exists.
The cover is illustrated by Gary Dorning. For some reason I find a picture of Uncle Sam holding a white mask somewhat disturbing. I am sure that was not the author's intention but I cannot help but think of such things seeing that picture and those words. It makes think of the Ku Klux Klan. And why did it have to do entitled "Lost Identity". There happens to be a virulently racist and anti-Semitic strain of British Israelism that happens to be called "Christian Identity". I am not implying in any way that any of this is intended. I am simply describing what the cover makes me feel.
