The Murder of Indigenous Women in Canada

Accompanying an article red baiting the Trudeaus is a side bar article by PCG's Robert Morley noting some of the policies Justin Trudeau is preparing to pursue. Here is one of them.

3. Treat descendants of indigenous peoples as a nation equal to Canada.

Trudeau has promised them an additional $2.6 billion and an investigation into how they have been treated in the past by the police. 

Reading the list it seems that PCG is describing what they do not like about the new Liberal Party government.

However trying to help the First Nations of Canada sounds like a sorely needed necessity considering the terrible current problem in Canada of indigenous women being murdered.

Buried under more than a foot of freshly fallen snow, the frozen body of Loretta Saunders, a pregnant Inuit student from the eastern Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, was found by police last week.

The 26-year-old - who was reportedly writing her thesis on missing and murdered aboriginal women - herself became one of the hundreds of indigenous Canadian women targeted in recent years. Several high-profile cases, including the grisly Robert Pickton murders in British Columbia and a string of disappearances along the province's so-called Highway of Tears, have focused public attention on the issue and spurred federal political intervention. ...

More than 600 aboriginal women have been killed or gone missing over the past several decades, according to data from the Native Women's Association of Canada (NWAC). Most of the documented cases occurred between 2000 and 2010, at which point the federal government ceased funding the database. NWAC has called the number "disproportionately high", noting that in the 2000s, aboriginal women comprised just three percent of the country's female population but represented 10 percent of all female homicides. Good on the Liberal Party for trying to address this terrible problem. Clearly help is sorely needed.
