A teacher of media and filmmaking at one of our high schools for religious girls (ulpanot) called me on the telephone. She said she enjoyed reading my articles on Israeli cinema, but she had a question. “What do you mean by a story with a rightist theme?” It seems there was no such category on the Ministry of Education’s list of recommended literature or films. How subjective such an opinion as that is.
“I can’t encourage my students to make a rightst movie, or to compose a rightist story, when I don’t know what one is myself,” she confessed. “It’s terrible, but like you said, there are no patriotic or Zionistic movies made in Israel. Just the propaganda of the Left, dressed up to look like art.” (March 2, 2016.)
Since the 1978 election of Likud to power the right has been in power in Israel for most of the time since then. Furthermore left wing media had been in decline in Israel according to this 2002 article. And that still is not enough for rightists like the one quoted above?
Arutz Sheva is a far right media outlet in Israel that caters for national religious Israeli Jews. It is closely associated with the settlers. Its headquarters are in Beit El, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank.
Arutz Sheva is often quoted by PCG and to a somewhat lesser extent by UCG, LCG and RCG. It is never criticized by the COGs. The COGs trust Arutz Sheva. They have never bothered explaining to their readers the political stance Arutz Sheva tends to take.
